Roon app deemed damaged and not opening on new iMac (ref#JTJHFX)

What’s happening?

· My Roon software won't start up

Describe the issue

I just got a new iMac to replace the 2017 version of the same. When I tried to open roon for the first time today, I got a message saying "roon is damaged and can't be opened. Move it to the Trash." I tried to open it anyway, but it wouldn't. I put it in the Trash, and tried to open the app from my Applications file. It would not open either, and I got the same message it was damaged. When I went to Apple's App Store to re-download the roon app, it was anywhere to be seen or downloaded! When I checked to the App Store on my iPhone, it WAS there. Too weird. I went to your site, but could not find a place for me to download another copy. So I need my roon. Please help ASAP. Thank you.

Describe your network setup

Roon server on new iMac. All connections are ethernet. Moon 280D DAC. I don't think any of this info is relevant, but there you go. Thanks

The Roon app for iPhone and iPads is just the Roon control, not the full Roon version you need for your Roon server.

It’s only available from Roon’s site.

That’s the iPad / iPhone Roon [remote] app not Roon Server / Roon GUI for your computer.

It’s here …

A question did you “clone” Roon from your old Mac to the new one? If so this would explain the difficulties you are experiencing.

You need to install Roon from the download and then restore a Roon database backup (that was taken using your old Roon Server machine.

Thank you. Yes it’s on the roon website, but identified as the free trial. Started the download process anyway, but said ‘no’ to allowing it to search and access all files because I was afraid it would duplicate all the 60k tracks in my library. I also mistakenly thought I’d need to re-enter my user ID and pw to access my library.

So, I was surprised when it opened and had already me as the user and populated my library. The problem now is that in the Audio setup area it only identifies the iMac Speakers and HQPlayer as outputs.

Is there a way to somewhere trigger roon to see those devices in Audio Settings?

Thx very much!

I think there is some confusion here … the blue square “Free Trial” (by the menu icon, top right of page) is a link to another page for those that wish to take advantage of it.

You’re an existing user so just ignore that blue square, and use the download link “INSTALL ROON FOR MAC”.

Yes. Thx. If there is a separate roon download for reinstalling that’s not the free trial, pls let me know where to look. Don’t see it.

I did, right or wrong, download the “free trial” in hopes I would be able to sign in and connect my library. But I didn’t have to do that. It auro-populated my name, profile and complete library! And it works. But only on my computer speakers. It is not showing any other endpoints throughout my network in Audio Settings.

Is there a way for me to trigger that?

Thank you

Bruce

It’s the same software. You don’t click the free trial button unless you are a new customer wanting a free trial. You scroll down the page a little. Anyway, it works regardless.

I recommend you reboot everything including your router.

I suspect you have run into an ongoing macOS 15 issue … see this link topic for a workaround.

Hi @Bruce_Orr,

Glad to see you have things up and running! I believe @Carl’s above response may help push things across the finish line for you.

We’ll be on standby for your reply! :+1:

Yes, with Carl’s help, the problem was immediately solved. There is one roon ready endpoint that is still missing, but I believe that is due to a separate TBD issue. I will see if I can resolve.

Please consider sharing this known - but temporary - issue stemming from changes Apple made to its new Sequoia 15 software with the community asap. Perhaps add it to the release notes, as well? It would be a tremendous service.

Thank you

Bruce
