How can we help?

My Roon software won't start up

After installing toaday's software update on my PC (2/21/24), Roon app won't start.

I guess I’m the only one with this adventure, since no help arrived. While waiting, I discovered that the Roon app was completely wiped out from my PC after executing the software update. Looks like I will have to go ahead with new installation.

Maybe its time for the Roon Support to pick up this topic. The system settings indicate that Roon App is installed on my PC, last modified with the latest software update. The application files “disappeared” - only shortcuts remain. Hope you can come up with some advise how to proceed.

Can you say why you think this? The Roon and Roon Server apps folders should be found in the
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local directory.

Have you manually started the Roon Server app from the Desktop shortcut?

Hi GeoffThanks for your reply. The application closed down when I selected “Update All” on the update notification and I was not able to restart it since. I found the Roon directories. Seems like the Roon.exe is missing in Application folder?

Er, no - the roon.exe file is not missing - it’s there in your second screenshot. It’s just showing as Roon (type: application) because your Windows Files Explorer does not show file extensions by default.

What is interesting are all the AppCrash folders. These are being created by Windows, and contain information similar to application errors viewed in the Windows Event Viewer.

Each folder will contain an error report. Can you open one of these (Windows Notepad should do it) and paste the contents into a post here? Thanks.

Well, this seems to confirm that Roon is crashing each time you try to open it. Can you try reinstalling it once more from the Roon Labs download page?

Roon - Downloads

I think that your error report seems to suggest that the fault is being caused by KERNELBASE.dll - which is actually a Windows System file, so reinstallation of Roon might not resolve the issue. If it doesn’t, then it will be time to go hunting in your Windows system for something deeper. Let us know.

I am wondering if Joseph is having the same problem as me:

Well, what does your Windows Event Viewer report as an error with roon.exe when you try and start it?

(please post your answer in your own thread, rather than here - let’s keep the threads separate for now until we know more)

Thanks. Should I uninstall the crashing app first?

A quick search with the exception code (e0434352) in Google makes me believe that is a .NET related issue. Make sure .NET 6 is properly installed maybe helps?

Wouldn’t do any harm to do that… But leave the Roon database in place if the uninstaller asks…

Roon will not start anymore. Can’t uninstall or quit the app. Start up window is blank with just the logo pulsing

@Raphael_Pei - Please open a new Support Request in the Support category of the forum rather than adding a “me too” post to an existing thread. Please give full details of your Roon and Network setup in your post. Thank you.

Hi Geoff,
No luck with new installation of Roon. Attached error message " Please quit all instances of RoonServer" blocks it. Same with an attempt to uninstall.

Yup - you have to quit the running Roon Server first. Please see the Roon Server article to see where the Quit menu option is to be found.

Here is the attachement…

Success - Roon is back and working fine. Thanks for your help.
