Describe the issue
Roon app on windows 10 cannot play music to directly attached speakers on the PC. Directly attached speakers do not appear as a "zone". Windows firewall is turned OFF. Windows 10 pc has multiple ip addresses and hyper-v running. This used to work.
Describe your network setup
PC has 2 network cards and multiple secondary ip addresses.
@John_Thoren do you have a System Output option on this PC in Roon’s Audio settings? If so, then the direct-attached speakers should play Roon if these speakers are set to the System Output in W10.
Robert, my speakers don’t show up in my audio settings section. They used to before I reinstalled roon. Same pc, but I’d stopped using roon and uninstalled it. Now, I’m giving it another test. Attached is a screenshot. Thank you.
Jim, I don’t understand your suggestion. “System output” does not show up as an audio output option on my PC any longer, which I thought I’d shown in the screenshot I attached above.
You’re not showing us what is above that. Directly attached devices to your PC are not network devices. Maybe you’re not talking about directly attached speakers at all, but network attached speakers.
One place you say ethernet connection then you say analog cables.
EDIT: I guess Roon Support is going to need to figure this out. Sorry.
Jim, There is nothing “above” what I show in my screenshot. There is no scroll bar to the right side of the screen as there is on your screenshots. I just click the “audio” item, and all I see is what i showed. One correction about the “analog cables” - My PC outputs via usb to a dac, and that’s connected via analog cables to the speakers on my desktop. I can play music via itunes or windows players to them, even as roon does not “see” my speakers.
We’re sorry to see you’re having a problem with setting up your DAC.
First thing we would like to clarify with you the name of your DAC so we could find more details on its setup.
Secondly, can you please set it as a default speaker on your PC ?
For that you’d have to press Win + R → mmsys.cpl → click on your DAC and choose “set default”. Also, please try to open the options of the DAC and in tab “advanced” allow options for Exclusive Mode.
Alex, Attached are my audio settings. They were already set to “exclusive control”. I tried changing to 16/44 and “test”, which worked, but did not result in the speakers showing up in roon “audio”. I then clicked “restore defaults” and they went back to 24/48, and left both “exclusive control” and “give exclusive mode” checked.
Thanks for all the information and screenshots so far! Let’s see if refreshing your RAATServer database may help.
You can generate a new RAATServer instance on your device by following these instructions, but please be aware that this will reset your Roon Settings -> Audio Tab to factory settings and I would advise making a backup of any custom DSP settings you have:
Benjamin, I followed those steps then restarted the roon app, but I still see no local speakers, and the raatserver folder was not created. Do I need to restart the roonservice or roonappliance background processes, and if so, how should I go about that? Just kill them in task mangler? Thank you.
No luck. Removed hyper-v, now I just have 2 standard ethernet, wan and lan, and roon shows still no local speakers. The lan interface is set as a “private” network, and wan, public. I can browse file shares on my workstation via windows pcs and ipads. The settings for private/public and “make this device discoverable” seem different on the current 22h2 version of windows 10. Since the windows firewall is turned off, I’m not allowed to “turn on network discovery”. That said, it does have file sharing enabled. The public/wan interface has discovery and sharing disabled. If I use windows explorer, I can click the “network” and see file shares on this workstation, so it seems like discovery is working.
Roon still sees all my network speakers (sonos and wiim), just not the local ones It seems nuts that it would need some kind of network discovery to see speakers which are locally attached. It’s not like I would need to “share” my locally attached speakers.
