Roon ARC for Android Auto has arrived! Share your thoughts, and road adventures here!

Tried Arc on AA for a few days now. Thoughts:

  1. best way to display artists or albums for me would be to have a heart/like list option as I have thousands of artists and albums but heart/like hundreds that are essentially my a list.

  2. if you could find a way to download tidal content generally in Arc it would be an absolute game changer

  3. playlist folders would also help simplify the playlist finding processes in fewest clicks or swipes.

Otherwise it’s great. Without being able to download tidal content I’m probably going to end up back using tidal app more often than Arc (to save data or have music when no data is available) which is a shame because Arc is so close to being a game changer.

You might want to watch this interview with Enno. In it, the question was asked why we can’t download from Tidal or Qobuz to ARC, and his answer was that it’s not a technical issue, but a contractual one. The contracts in question being those between the streaming services and the record labels.

Took the long way home through the Everglades today where there was several multi minute blips in service. ARC kept things going for the most part and performed very well!

I do wish I could browse by tracks, and like/love songs.

Really happy with Roon in the house and on the gonright now!

Nice, I have Android Auto coolwalk as well, love the split screen. I see you are missing album art - seems to be a persisting problem with Arc and android auto.

Oh, not sure if you have tried it, but I find waze much better than google maps with real time updates etc.

Today Artists and Albums lists were populated and album art was shown. Everything looked good. I listened to an album and when it had finished, I went back in to Artists again to pick another one. This time I got the spinning progress bar and no list was populated, just like I reported the other day. Quite frustrating.

I would love for the option to “like” (heart) a track that’s playing from the main screen. I know Spotify have implemented this functionality.
I’ve never understood the shuffle and repeat buttons.

Really nice feature to have Roon while driving to work. Looking forward to discover lots more music while driving.
However it is stuttering for me at some times. Normal RoonArc works fine and also Qobuz in Android Auto mode.

Could be that Arc on AA just demands more on phone compute power than normal Arc.

Nokia 6.1 wired with a Toyota Yaris Cross.

I have the latest Android Auto app using a 2020 Mazda with a Samsung S9 phone, everything works great as far as listening, but the progess bar sometimes continually slides left and right with no affect of playback, but pausing the track and then hitting play again fixes it. It does not cause any problems, except in my mind because my peripheral vision can see the progress bar searching for something, haha.

Same experience here. Using a samsung fold 4 on ford sync 3 headunit.
No issues with poor reception tho, as others are reporting.

I also am having a problem with ARC. When ARC first came out, I was able to get into it with no problem. Now, all I get is “Poor Connection”, even when I am in the same room with my Roon core.

On my system (Dynavin N7 V7pro, Huawei P20 pro) ARC runs just sometime an not reliable with AA. Album cover, sometimes. and everything is very slow.
As the new version of Quobuz Android works quite well with AA I decided to use this in the car.

I love it. So far works great.

In addition I noticed the future tracks are optimized for listening the instant you skip. Zero issues with buffering prior to this update.

Keep up the good work folks :+1:t4::+1:t4:

Belgian upload speeds are notoriously slow unless you have fiber… Telenet over coax only provides 20mbps for example so it might be worth checking your upload speed since you’re bound to your ISP’s speed limit.

So I thought my car was too old for Android Auto to function (Seat Ibiza 2016), turns out my cable was charge only so I was pleased to see it does work with a different cable!

However I can never see all albums if I browse by artist on my library, is this normal?
Also sometimes album and artist thumbnails are loading slowly but that could be due to my ISP’s upload speed, not sure.
Thanks for the work on this app so far.

This conversation is about ARC on Andriod Auto. So i wonder how fibre comes into play?

P.S. last christmas i played a relevant playlist using ARC on 4G at the family xmas party. Worked like a charm on my phone using Belgian 4G while stationary in my nephew’s house.

I just mentioned because it gets streamed from your core at home to ARC which is then dependent on your upload speed, at least from what I understand (someone correct me if I’m wrong).
But if it works fine outside of Android Auto on 4g then it’s obviously not your ISP’s upload speed that’s the issue so my apologies if I misunderstood.

Hi all, i get ARC on Android Auto does “not work at this time” message on AA, unless i start ARC on my phone before i connect the android phone to the car. Any suggestion for changes of setting on Android?

Most of the entries in my Roon Library point towards Qobuz. I have understood that, in that case, ARC receives its music data stream directly from Qobuz. I have tested ARC with local files (on my Roon Core), and that works fine also on stationary 4G direct on the phone.

I would love to be able to have 3 or so users use RoonArc without them using my email address, guests if you will. They could use their own or use a key code to attach to Roon. They ideally would only have read only access so they couldn’t mess with anything.

Turns out the Roon ARC app must have the permission to start itself (“automatically”). Then ARC does not need to be started before the phone is connected to Android Auto.
