Why is Roon such a great experience, but Roon ARC is persistently problematic? Have spent SOOOOO much time just to get it to work. The when you thinks it’s working, it just stops working!
Thank you for the update and the feedback — we truly appreciate it. We’re continuously working to improve the Roon ARC experience, and your input is important to help guide those improvements.
To better understand what’s going wrong in your case, could you please share:
A screenshot of the ARC status in Roon → Settings → Roon ARC
A screenshot of the ARC app → Settings tab on the mobile device when connected to cellular data
This information will help us pinpoint where the connection might be failing. Let us know once you’ve gathered those details.
Hi @Glen_Giffen,
Thanks for letting us know that you’ve seen some improvement with the latest update. Just to be sure, are there any problems at all using Qobuz through ARC?
Thanks for checking in. The situation has definitely improved over the past couple of day, after a few weeks of problems. Can’t say if its the Roon ARC update or something else. Its working for now but will continue to monitor.
Thank you for your report. We can see playback arresting at 0:00 and failing when ARC attempts to initiate a Qobuz mp3 to a Bluetooth device connected to the phone.
Does this issue always occur with the same Bluetooth endpoint?
Can you reproduce this problem when the phone is on WiFi instead of cellular data?
What about if you use the phone speakers instead of Bluetooth?
ARC doesn’t appear to have an issue reaching Qobuz’s servers to start the download, but the interaction between Android’s audio APIs and ARC is potentially failing around the timestamp when playback breaks.
If you can provide a screenshot of the track that is playing in ARC, along with a screenshot of the Signal Path, that will greatly expedite our investigation here, since it will include the specifics of the endpoint involved.
The issue occurs both on wi-fi and across cellular. It also occurs both on Blutooth (multiple devices) and when simply using the phones speakers.
I have attached a screenshot of the track on which the problem occurs but would not it happens across multiple tracks. I can’t take a screenshot of the signal path as there is no visible signal path as the stream stops at 0.00.
Hi @Glen_Giffen,
Thanks for the answers to our questions and the screenshots here. I think the next step here is to bring this case to our developers. Once we hear back from them we will let you know here. Thanks in advance for your patience!
I installed Roon ARC onto another device and it works fine with Qobuz streaming via ARC. Furthermore, I connected the second device using 5G cellular hotspot feom my original phone (where Qobuz via Roon ARC doesn’t work) and it works fine!!!
So definitely nothing to do with the network, router settings, Roon server or cellular network. It is something very specific to my phone as the endpoint.
Our developers took an initial look at your case but weren’t able to find anything conclusive. To help them dig deeper, could you confirm which device you’re using Roon ARC on when the Qobuz issue occurs? They also wondered if there might be any ISP-level blocking involved?
