Roon as a MinimServer Control point?

I have a DCS Rossini, A roon nucleus one,and a Synology NAS. DCS recommends UPnP connection via MinimServer with Mosaic. I read that you can use roon on this setup in place of Mosaic? Is anyone doing that and how?

Hello @ARD,

Thank you for reaching Roon Support.

The,DCS Rossini is a Roon Ready and Roon Tested device, which means you can absolutely replace MinimServer with Nucleus One in your setup. Feel free to use Roon to control the Rossini instead of Mosaic, and you’ll be able to enjoy seamless integration with your system.

Let us know if you need any assistance with the setup!

My question was the opposite, I have been using Roon for several years although I just re-upped. I was asking about using MinimServer UPnP recommended by DCS with a Roon control point instead of Mosaic.

I have a Nucleus One and was. I see on line some saying this can be done?

A post was split to a new topic: Do I really need to have my post cleared?

Hello @ARD,

Thank you for the update.

Please note that UPnP is not officially supported in Roon. However, there is a community extension that may help with your current setup. You can check it out here:

rooupnp: Finally a Roon extension for UPnP streamers

Keep in mind that this is not an officially supported solution, and if you encounter any issues with the extension, you should reach out directly to the topic creator for assistance.

Let me know if you need further help!

Hi,
You should be able to provide a UPnP stream as a feed to the DCS network player from Roon, using one of the UPnP bridges that exist, such as:

  1. rooUPnP
  2. SonoreUPnP Bridge
  3. The LMS2UPNP plugin

I use Roon with the SonoreUPnP Bridge with my Naim NDS network player, so I can benefit from the Roon system but with non Roon-Ready equipment.
Here although your DCS is Roon Ready/Roon Tested, you are being recommended to use it with a UPnP stream feed.

My assumption is since DCS recommends MinimServer I am trying to see if there will be an EQ improvement.?

Then if you are looking to use a UPnP server to manage your local content and have this served to the Renderer, then you have to use a UPnP controller with the server.

You could also try Asset UPnP service.
This runs natively on the OS (Windows or Linux) rather than as a Java application in a container, as MinimServer does.

When I was using a UPnP server, pre-Roon, I found Asset UPnP easier and better for this function.
I was using it with a Naim network player and the Naim app, with Asset running on a RPi2 with DietPi, as a lightweight embedded device.

I found the SQ from the likes of SonoreUPnP Bridge providing the UPnP stream from a Roon environment, to be the same as a UPnP stream from the Asset UPnP server on RPi2. So the benefits of Roon but with a UPnP supported Network Player.

Hi @ARD ,

You can try both and see if you notice a difference, sure. Keep in mind Roon also has a DSP Engine (MUSE) that you can use to tweak the audio stream to your liking:
