Roon client fails to show music - on same Win10 machine as core, and iOS and MacOS

For what it’s worth, my RoonServer logs are generating massive files - like ~8MB every minute or two:

Not sure if this is something in the logs that Roon enabled or if RHEOS is causing trouble — for now I’ve stopped the RHEOS service, and the logs at least are no longer accumulating at a crazy rate. Down to about 2K per minute instead of 4MB per minute.

Hi Monty.

Do you have any of the content of the log files so I can see if this is being driven by RHEOS.

Thanks

Peter

Looks very similar to the behavior I reported here.

Have been running whithout RHEOS for some days now. No more excessive logging. Memory use goes up with large volume of metadata operations but also comes back down after some time.

@support here is a discussion with @peter_richardson in connection with RHEOS. And here is a link to the log file, before and after disabling RHEOS. Not sure if this is an RHEOS problem or simply some massive amount of debug logs generated when Roon support flipped some switches to help diagnose my issues….

@noris its been months … can you please take a look at all I have posted on these issues?

Hello @Monty_Kosma ,

Apologies for the delayed response here. We are still looking into this issue, and our dev team reviewed your logging. It appears that the RHEOS extension is resubscribing to transport controls much more often than usual and this is likely leading to the increased CPU/RAM you are seeing.

There is a slight possibility that the Araknis switches may be interfering with the extension subscribing to the transport controls. Have you confirmed if the same issue occurs if you bypass the Araknis switches? If you have not yet tried bypassing the switches, please do let us know if this modifies the behavior as we continue to try to pinpoint the issue on our end as well. Thanks!

Thanks for this. There shouldn’t be an obvious reason why the RHEOS app should be re-connecting. It only does so if its disconnected by a reported network error.

Are the logs still showing this and wonder if any other RHEOS users are seeing similar issues - no one is reporting them but I’m surprised this is a specific switch issue…

Hi @Monty_Kosma,

My apologies for the long delay in checking in on your issue! Are you still having issues linked to this thread?

We’ll be on standby for your reply. Thanks! :+1:

Thanks for checking. I disabled RHEOS due to the troubles. I will re-enable and try again in the next few days.

Is there anything I can look for in the logs or elsewhere to see the symptom you found?

BTW the topology is there’s an Araknis managed switch with PoE running most of the home. The Roon server is hardwired to that switch. The switch also runs to a closet with two racks, each with an unmanaged Araknis switch, and one that connect the RPi with RHEOS and the other with two HEOS Drive 4-zone amps.

I’m guessing it’s the managed switch you’re concerned about?

Monty

Hi @Monty_Kosma ,

It has been some time, so I wanted to check in with you here, are you still having the same issue as previously?

I worked around the issue by taking a line audio out from the McIntosh preamp into the HEOS audio in. I am planning to try RHEOS again as it would be much better to have Roon able to control my zones and volumes.

Monty
