Roon crashes on Mac Studio when editing artist or album after update to V 2.62 (ref#0GM4IM)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· Since updating to V 2.62 on my Mac Studio, Roon crashes whenever I try to edit the album or artist in any way (changing the artist banner art or the release date of an album etc.)

This happens no matter from which view you try and edit the artist/album

Is this a known bug and can we expect a solve for this via a patch or will we have to wait for the next build?

Appreciate the help!

Yup, no solution on that one as yet, so I am keeping an eye on it… Thanks BlackJack!

@Ben_Thompson could you say which version of MacOS you’re using?

Hello @Ben_Thompson ,

Thanks for the report. Can you please let us know the exact local time + date of the next crash you observe? Is this just a Roon UI crash or a RoonServer crash (does RoonServer exit from the taskbar)? We’ll enable diagnostics after you let us know the timestamp and look over logging for clues. Thank you.

Tried to “Edit Album Artist” to change the artist image on Mon, Mar 9th at 10:05 PST.
RoonServer exited out from the Dock/Taskbar entirely. (So I assume RoonServer crash)

Please don’t hesitate to let me know if I can provide anything further?

@Ben_Thompson ,

Thanks for replying.

We can see in the analytics report that you are experiencing the same issue as @Sombre23.

We have passed this on to our QA team for review.

We will keep you updated either directly in this thread, or in future release notes if the solution requires more time to implement.

Thank you.

Alex - What’s the procedure for this again?

“Could you please also share to the same Link the folder Called “RoonServer” ?”

Thank you for your attention here Alex, looking forward to getting back on track and will await further information to come

have a great rest of the week!

Hello @Sombre23,

To help our team investigate this crash further, we need a copy of your RoonServer folder. Here is the easiest way to find and package it:

  1. Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the “Run” dialog.
  2. In the box, type precisely %localappdata% and hit Enter.
  3. In the folder that opens, locate the folder named RoonServer.
  4. Right-click the RoonServer folder and select Compress to ZIP file (or “Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder”).

Once you have that ZIP file ready, please upload it to the link. This will give our R&D team the exact environment data they need to trace the fault.

The Roon Server Folder Its 142mb in size, can you be more specific as it won’t accept a zip file over 50mb for the upload link provided

Update - It seems to have uploaded the larger zipped 142mb Roon Server folder

Hi @Ben_Thompson,

As a workaround in the meantime, please try deleting the Roon cache:

  1. Close Roon
  2. Open Finder and click Go in the top bar
  3. Hold down the Option key (or Alt)(⌥) to unhide the Library folder
  4. Click the Library folder
  5. Navigate to the Roon folder itself and delete the cache folder you see within
  6. Restart Roon
Let us know if this prevents the crash in the meantime.

Thank you for the instructions and I have followed them twice this morning.

Unfortunately he crash persists, and I will continue to await a fix or further instructions rom the team.

In the meantime, please let me know if I can provide anything further from my end to help diagnose this

Have you edited your theme file? I recently had the same problem, i.e. Roon crashing on trying to edit an album, and found that it was because I had altered the colors file to change the theme. If you have done the same, take look at this post for a fix. If that’s not the problem, good luck in getting it sorted out.

DaveN, you nailed it.
That was the solution entirely and I thank you for taking the time to post it here.
Hopefully this helps @Sombre23 and others if it applies to their problem.

Appreciate you sir!

Excellent, I’m happy it helped.

@connor, @vadim, @alex_h and @noris: as quite a few people probably still modify the color file to change the appearance of Roon it might be a good idea for @support to let us know when any significant changes are made to this file so threads such as this one can be avoided.

The Roon log error to look out for, should you need it to assist anyone else, will be something like the following:

CPU0 Description: Apple M1 (64-bit)
CPU0 Num Cores: Physical: 8 Logical: 8

Exception Source: BrooEngine
Exception Type: System.Exception
Exception Target Site: LoadContext.ParseNamedColor
Exception Message: invalid color name: “#button-sensitivity-text-color
Exception Data: none
