Roon does not recognize new Ultrarendu

Pull the power for each dac. Then pull the usb cable from each rendu

Power of the Rendu’s. Then plug in and power up the dacs and then the Rendu’s

See if this helps

A couple of things.

  1. turn off the firewall as a test and see if the Rendus show up. It maybe an update to the firewall in windows removed the RAATserver, RoonSErver, Roon exceptions.

  2. Verify that the PC IP is on the same subnet as the Rendus.

Hi there I have a single UR. I have run into this problem several times. There is no simple protocol I am afraid but one or more of the below steps always (eventually) work for me, albeit sometimes having to repeat them:

  1. Reboot the UR from the Sonic orbiter page
  2. Restart (please remove the power link first)
  3. Restart the DAC for the USB connection.

As said I have not managed to find a specific sequence of the above which works every time but a combination will always work (the only piece of good news here)

I’ve configured the firewall to allow both Roon and Tidal thru the windows defender. I think that’s the only firewall I have.
ip address’s: ultrarendus 10.0.0.195 and 10.0.0.108 computer ipv4: 10.0.0.191
I don’t know the ip address of the Nucleus plus which is my core.

Roon has multiple entries that need to be allowed through the firewall, that is why the quick turn it off, does it work, will let you know if the issue is with the firewall entries. I listed them before, but, you need, Roon, RoonServer, Roonappliance, and importantly RAATserver allowed through the firewall. (which ever of those are listed in the Firewall exceptions).

cheers

I I think I’m making progress. I disabled the apple tv to get it out of the picture

after rebooting the Dac’s and the rendu’s. Now I’ve got one ultrarendu showing up in roon, but no sound. I’m running the usb output thru a Matrix spdf2 to get an I2S signal to the PS Audio Dac. This always worked before and sounded great.

I turned the windows firewall completely off. -No help. My functioning ultrarendu seems to be playing to my Holo May DAC in my music room instead of to the PS Audio Dac in the living room.

Thanks for trying.

It appears that I have entered Ultrarendu-Roon networking hell.

I sympathize here as I also suffered erratic connection problems with both my mR and uR at times.
However as @DrPo did say, usually some combination of fiddling would get them back online.
Not much help I know but it might need A.Gillis further thoughts here to assist.

Have you shut down and rebooted all network equipment - routers, modems, switches, etc. Whenever I’ve had discovery issues with rendus, this has been the way to solve it (for me).

Although the Rendu product line is not made by us (it’s manufactured by Sonore) we do provide support for all Sonore products. If you have issues go to smallgreencomputer.com and click on the contact us button. You can submit a support ticket there.

I just rebooted the router. I’ve also rebooted my ether regen switch which feeds my ultrarendu outputting usb to my Holo May Dac.
I just remembered that my problem with the rendus began with a momentary power outage about a week ago. I could never get the microrendu in my living room system working again. So, I assumed it was broken and replaced it with the new ultrarendu.
I still have no music coming from the ultrarendu recognized by Roon.

Gee thanks Andrew, -No problem doing that!

At the obvious cost of sounding repetitive:

After a power down you don’t see your UR or you see it as endpoint in Roon but when you ask to play it skips the track to next without playing anything. If this is the case, then read on, if not forget my post.

From the Sonic orbiter (or my antipodes) page, find your UR, settings → restart. If it still does not work, reboot. If still does not work restart. Do this (admittedly painful and idiotic process) a few times. Eventually it will work.

I have this very time I have a power grid failure (storm, maintenance)

I have rebooted all of my devices 2-3 times, including rendu’s, routers, dacs, and switches. -Nothing shows up under settings-audio except my apple tv which sounds rather nice with an optical connection to the dac. (galvanic isolation)
I’ve removed the Ultrarendu, power supply, and matrix spdf2 from the l/r system, and will work on the single Ultrarendu configured as HQPlayer NAA in my main music system feeding usb from ultrarendu to the May Dac.
It’s ironic that a $50 Apple TV is recognized by Roon and a$1000 Ultrarendu is not. -Sad I am!

HI @John_Wyant,

I wanted to let you know what we see from our perspective. I enabled diagnostics and found a process playing out over and over. Roon sees the UltraRendu and tries to play to it. We send the command to play and it disconnects.

Sorry if you’re repeating yourself by answering this, but how is the Ultrarendu connected to your network? Is there a mesh node or similar it’s connected to or is connected to a switch? If there’s a switch, is it a managed or unmanaged switch?

Thanks,
Wes

My ultrarendus are hardwired to my network. In my main music room there is a ether rendu switch between the Rendu and my Roon Nucleus plus. No managed switches or mesh network here. I’ve decided to only use the ultrarendu in the music room. An apple TV 3rd generation with optical output to my DAC works very well in the living room system. If I can get the music room ultrarendu recognized by Roon and working, I’ll be happy.

I’m also having a conversation with Andrew Gillis of Small Green computer about the situation. He has no answers, unfortunately. He does ask a lot of questions and obviously didn’t read my thread on the Roonlabs site. -Very frustrating. I’ve sold my cd transport because the streaming was going so well.

PS: I have nothing on my network with the ip address of10.0.0.40425

I have no clue as to where that crap is coming from.

Thanks for your attention.

Hi @John_Wyant,

In providing the logging I saw, I replaced the last octet of your internal IP with an x as some users had previously expressed security concerns. What I provided is a snippet of what Roon sees when it tries to connect.

Is it possible for you to connect the unit directly to your router (a different cable is ideal) and see if Roon has any issues recognizing it? From our perspective, all we see is that Roon struggles to keep a connection and it’s a recurring theme in the logging.

Thanks,
Wes

I’ll try bypassing the Ether rendu. It’s never been a problem in the past. It’s supposed to improve the sound with a kind of galvanic isolation, and it was an expensive item.
