I’ve had no hangs during loading for 4 days straight. Is it possible that a problem I’ve had for more than a year is finally solved? If so kudos.I’d be interested in what the problem was. It started after a Roon update, and it seems to have stopped after this latest update. I’ll keep my eye on it, but I’ve seen no evidence of this persistent problem since the latest update. And no dropouts either.. that was a recent problem but it seems to be fixed as well.
One small note. Twice today the Roon stream just stopped dead, then restarted again in about 2 seconds. Latest stop was at 8:57 PM MST. This is new behavior. I think the album loading pauses are fixed, and I’ve heard no breakup since I installed the latest version of the Roon software. FYI.
Parties over. This morning (8:31 MST) loading a Gustav Holst album the system hung for a full minute trying to bring that album up. Also, on the main album page most of the album art was blank. it finally came back too. Darn, thought it was fixed!
Things are getting worse. Tonight at 7:34 MST an album simply would not play after taking almost a minute to appear. In fact, no albums would play. I rebooted the server, and for now things are back to normal. Something is seriously wrong here. I still suspect a memory leak, and now when I bring the app up in the morning all my album art is missing… just blank albums. After aehile, several minutes, they appear. This to me also seems like a memory leak, or perhaps defective RAM. I’ve had issues for more than a year. Can you guys throw some resources at this thing and fix it? It’s just gone on too long. It’s not my network, or any of my Roon approved devices. It’s on the server.
is this going to be fixed? Constantly rebooting the Roon server is not a solution.

Describe the issue
I am making a new post because no one has responded recently to my last one. This problem has been ongoing for more than a year and I know that Roon has been working on it but nothing really gets better. For seven days straight. It worked fine after a Software Update, but then a recent update seems to have killed the progress. In the morning when I load a playlist two or three albums load and then the next one freezes. It takes now about a minute and a half to two minutes for the album to appear. That's really unacceptable obviously. It's not my router. It's not my network everything on. It works fine. I believe it's the RoonServer and I believe it's either a memory leak or perhaps some physically bad ram I don't know and I don't know how to read the logs. I'm thinking seriously about moving back to my blue sound. Describe your network setup
not relevant. GB ethernet.
Hey @Mel_Martin,
I want to start by offering my sincerest apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I know that when you’re dealing with playback dropouts, every day feels like a long time to wait for a fix.
From a fresh Roon Server diagnostic analysis, we can see your Nucleus falling into a rapid-fire retry loop:
Error: [raat/tcpaudiosource] connect failed: Connection refused
This trace, "Connection refused" at 192.168.1.4 means the Server can "see" the device on the network, but the device is actively rejecting the request. This usually happens if the Roon service on the endpoint (the FiiO R7 or Eversolo) has crashed or the device’s networking stack is temporarily hung.
We’re also seeing: Trace: [rnet/RnetJsonClient] no data received for >10000ms. Killing connection.
This 10-second timeout suggests a deeper networking issue, likely a TCP hang or a multicast/IGMP snooping issue on the router where the control messages are being blocked, even if the “ping” (the connection attempt) is getting through.
I see that your Nucleus report is showing ~ 20 airplay devices, does this sound correct to you?
Apologies if this has been glazed over, but if you simplify your audio setup temporarily and only stream audio to the system output of one of your Roon remotes, do you experience the same issues eventually?
With that, can you please confirm the following:
- Try disabling IGMP Snooping entirely on the Araknis
- Set the STP mode to RSTP
- Disable Flow Control on the ports connected to the Nucleus and the audio endpoints (FiiO R7, Eversolo).
A couole of things that strike me as bizarre. First, I turned on the FiiO R7 for the first time on months to try it as a headphone amp. It isn’t the FiiO. These problems started way before I had an Eversolo. It isn’t the Eversolo.
The problems are getting worse and worse. the delays of getting an album displayed have almost doubled. Now, bringing up an album at any time shows a very slight delay that I never saw before. It used to be instant.
I will try disabling what you suggest, but it will be fruitless. A reboot generally fixes it, which would seem to put the problem at the Server and nowhere else. Hardware or software.
Still, I will follow your instructions to the best of my ability. I’m a lifetime subscriber. I didn’t sign up for this.. having problems for more than a year. I believe the network is fine. I have an HD video server running on the same network that never drops out or has an issue. At most I only run 2 Roon devices at once on this network. I am sure I have a lot of airplay devices, but they are not part of this problem and are never used with Roon.
And ran a Bluesound system for 5 years. Not one dropout. Never a failure to load an album. so what is the variable here? Seems to me Roon. This system worked fine for quite awhile. The network did not change. But Room software went through several changes. I think I have been patient and understanding, but more than a year of theories is a bit much. You have logs. A reboot fixed it. It ran fine for 6 days. I thought it was fixed. But then another Roon update and more problems, only the problems got worse. Yet it ran fine with the Eversolo in the chain. The other device is a Naim Uniti Atom. The Eversolo is an approved Roon device.
I really think someone should consider it a gilt edged priority to get this working. Or I’ll just go back to Bluesound, which worked on this network without a hitch. I’ve been nice, and I’ve been cooperative. But progress, except for 6 days, has been zero. I’m not happy, and I shouldn’t be. If the Eversolo is not fit for purpose take it off the ‘approved list’.
Thanks for listening. By the way, I have no idea how to make the changes you suggest on my router, so I’m all ears. And I don’t want it to screw up my video network whihc now works fine.
best
Mel
I see no flow control settings on the network panel on the Eversolo. Tomorrow, before I run Roon I will not have the Eversolo active. I doubt this will make a difference, but am willing to try.
The Eversolo is powered off. Same for the FiiO (which usually is not on anyway). I have unpaired the Eversolo, and disconnected its ethernet. Guess what? Same delay and hangs this morning loading one album one 1 Roon device. (Naim Uniti Atom). It happened at 8:33 AM MST. About a minute and a half delay. I think that dismisses the Eversolo theory.
Hi Benjamin. This morning I started building my playlist. First album, no problem. Second album done at 9:10 MST took 3:18 to load (!!). That’s a record I think. The album was ‘Lux Aurumque’. I am awaiting instructions on how to change the settings on the router. I believe I have eliminated the Eversolo as a culrprit, as I had the same issues with it disconnected from the network and powered off. It’s odd that these problems always happen when starting up in the morning, and generally, things work all day. Hard to fault any of the Roon endpoints for this, leaving the Roon software, and or the Roon server.
As another data point for you, I rebooted the Roon server before doing my usual morning build of a playlist. Everything loaded fine, more than 13 hours of music without a glitch. I remain convinced the issue is at the server or memory related. I will now as part of my routine reboot the server every morning, but it is a bandaid, not a fix, obviously. I will look forward to your response. Feel free to examine the logs. Reboot was at approximately 8:40 MST.
Good morning Benjamin. Once again this morning I rebooted Roon server. Once again my daily play list loaded with no issues. Yesterday, after the morning reboot, I had no issues of playback for 15 hours or so. I expect the same today. Comments?
Good morning Benjamin. This morning I again rebooted the Roon server and once again was able to load a dozed albums to a playlist with no hangs or delays. Yesterday my playlist executed perfectly all day, no slowdowns, no dropped data. I think it is becoming clear it is the Roon+ server, software or hardware. I had 2 devices live all day.. the Eversolo and the Uniti Atom. I’d like some feedback on these results and suggested next steps. Thanks
Rebooted Roon+ server again this morning, and was able to load my 12 hour playlist without issue. As I’ve said, every day that I reboot, the system works flawlessly. When I don’t reboot, I get 3+ minute hangs on loading an album, then everything is fine for a day, and the cycle repeats. As you know, it’s been going on for more than a year, and I’ve been unbelievably patient. I bought a lifetime subscription because I beleive in the product, but to go this long without a solution, while your techs chase non-existent router and non-Roon hardware problems seems to be chasing the wrong solution. I’ve paid for a working music system, and a solid server. I have neither. Please communicate you next steps, which I think should involve focus on the server. Thanks
Hello - I was having similar problems, and then I saw this thread, on having Roon create a fresh database: Long delays (up to 10 - 30 seconds) for loading albums or start playing tracks (both local and Qobuz) - Support - Roon Labs Community
I followed the directions at that thread, and while I have lost favorites, tags, etc., my system has not worked this well in a long time. Previously, and since the last big update, I had had dropouts and multi-second delays when starting a playlist and between tracks.
I am hopeful Roon will provide some guidance of somehow restoring favorites, but starting with a fresh database is a night and day difference.
Hi Dean.. thanks for the insights. I’ll ask about this. I am having 3 minute + delays loading albums, which is crazy. The fist step is to get Roon support to admit THEY ahve a problem, instead of blaming each Roon ready device in the house, my router, and the phase of the moon.
Thanks again.
Well - that didn’t last long. I just shuffled a long (1500 tracks) playlist, and it took something like 30 seconds + for the first song to start - that problem briefly went away after resetting the database.
If anyone from Roon reads/is reading this and wants to look at my logs: it was Tom Petty’s “Into the Great Wide Open” and I tried to shuffle the playlist at approximately 11:25AM Pacific Daylight Time on 3/22/26. And more importantly: would you formally acknowledge something is not right here? It can’t be that everyone has bad network equipment. I went as far as to replace every single Ethernet cable in my system because I frankly got tired of Roon raising that as a possible cause of the problem!
Hi Benjamin:
Another day, and another reboot of the Roon +. Once again, no problems loading, no delays with a long playlist. I’m just getting crickets from you folks, please let me know what next steps are, since it seems obvious the problems are either with the server or the software. For the last several days, rebooting the server 100% fixes the problem. I’d like this multi-year nightmare to end with some resolution. Thanks
Another 2 mornings where a reboot of the Roon server fixes all my Roon problems. Will the tech team have the courtesy to respond to a long-time customer so we can get to the bottom of this problem, or will I continue to be inside the cone of silence?
