Thx, I have a HEOS 3 and a Marantz SR7011 so quite a similar setup. I guess I may have to do some automations in node red for controlling the device then or buy a Bluesound…![]()
Peter is working on another version - this issue just started in the latest 2 versions with the new features where the extension ‘poles’ for devices to try to keep the list of audio devices up to date - he is aware of the bugs so I suspect we will see a fix soon…
I have gotten pretty quick on fixing the issue when it pops up - its usually when I have stopped or paused music for a day then go back…
Could you let me know what version you are using please.
I believe I’ve identified the root cause of this happening occasionally.
Please try Refresh HEOS Players in RHEOS setting menu and let me know if that brings the device back under control.
I am using 0.9.5.-2. Refreshing helps. But also pushing stop button and then play button
Hello Peter, Thank you for developing the RHEOS extension. I am having an issue getting the extension to work properly. Specifically I have the extension installed and enabled and the Roon app is able to discover my Denon as a Squeezebox player. The problem, when I select the Denon and press play the Denon will not play. I can raise and lower the volume through the Roon app but no sound comes out or video is dispIayed. Can you please help me? I am running the Roon app on a Windows 11 machine. I am also using the Windows machine as the server.
Thanks. Hopefully the new release will address this - I’m still testing and tinkering …
The most common reason for this behavior is that the app has not been enabled or several copies are running.
Look under ROON → extensions and see what is enabled …
Make sure only one is enabled.
If that doesn’t work we may need to investigate more - but I’m pleased you have got this far with it running on windows…
Hello Peter - Thank you for your quick reply. I did look under ROON > Extensions and see only one instance of RHEOS discovered, V 10.3-1. In settings I have AVR Zone Control, Fixed HEOS Groups, and Logging Enabled. When I look at the extension running it looks like it found the Denon but an error message repeats, “***PLEASE ENABLE RHEOS IN SETTINGS > EXTENSIONS > RHEOS ***”. Although I had the ROON app able to discover the Denon as a squeeebox yesterday today the ROON app will not discover the Denon when I look for it under settings > Audio. I can discover the Denon via Airplay but not as a squeezebox player. Please let me know other information you will need. Thank you for your help.
Try disabling and the restarting the extension and then re-enable.
Have you selected “Enable Squeezebox Support” in ROON Settings->Setup
I just disabled and reenabled the extension and it did cause the Denon to now show as a squeezebox device. When selected, however, the player does not play and there is no video displayed. When I touch on the icon on the lower left in ROON when I’m attempting to play something, it shows all available endpoints, including the Denon squeezebox, and there are sound level bars “dancing”. When I touch on the little star to the left of the player controls it shows source as Tidal and the Player as “Denon AVR-X4700H? Main? Zone”. Underneath that is “Squeezebox Streaming” Thanks again for your help.
Sorry you are still having trouble. Version 0.10.3-1 is still very much in test (as it is called).
The ‘latest’ docket image or that in ROON extension manager is more stable.
I played with my Marantz receiver, and I had to adjust the volume and input. Could you see what happens if you adjust to HEOS as source and manually adjust volume please.
There should be a custom volume control for main zone and zone 2 created that you can apply (but I am testing tis at present to confirm it is still working and I may need to adjust some of the code here.)
I did try increasing the volume manually and that had no effect on the issue we are having. FYI, when I started ROON and the RHEOS Extension the squeezebox discovery would not see the Denon until I turned AirPlay on in the Denon. Also, even when AirPlay is turned off in the Denon ROON discovers the Denon as an Other Network Device. Question; is AirPlay conflicting with Squeezebox causing the issue? Another observation, the IP address via Squeezebox streaming is that of my computer, i.e. the ROON core. Before today the IP address was something I did not recognize, nothing a part of my network. I had assumed it was pointing to HEOS and streaming would come to me via HEOS in the network. Another question; do I have to select any “External Device Controls” under Squeezebox player settings > Device Setup > Add external device control? One more FYI, I received a Nucleaus One today that I will be using as my ROON Core. As always, I appreciate your time as we work through this issue.
Airplay setting should have no impact on the squeeze device being seen.
By any chance have you LMS (Logitech or Lyrion Media Server) running - this can be persistent and can result in devices not showing up.
The ip address should be that of your ROON server.
I checked to be sure LMS is not running on my computer. It is not. I installed the Nucleus One. Once installed, the I was given the opportunity to “enable” the Denon as a squeezebox under Settings > Audio. I had never seen an enable button for the Denon squeezebox before. I still have issues getting Roon to discover the Denon squeezebox. I remove the extension and restart it to try to get Roon to discover the Denon. This works sometimes. If I remove and restart the RHEOS extension RHEOS now asks me to “enable” the extension and then it asks me to “pair” it. Before I just enabled the extension but was never given the chance to “pair” it. Finally if I’m able to select the Denon as a squeezebox and I press the arrow to play a selection I sometimes get a message the says “Audio Device Refused to Switch to Roon”. Please let met know if other information would be helpful for you.
@peter_richardson Hey Peter - checking if that final release is ever going to make it .. totally understand if it doesn’t as it served its purpose (and I just have to fund changing out my older devices for newer ones -
- good excuse to “negotiate” with the wifey). I still use your extension, but it crashes frequently.
Patrick
No worries.
I’m still working on improving this as I enjoy the exercise.
I’ll try to get an update out soon!
Just to reassure that I’m working hard on getting out an update.
It’s turned into a very significant rewrite - but now there’s a ROON native alternative I really need this to offer benefits and be as reliable as possible!
I’ll let you know if I have a version I’m comfortable with having tested ..
well you can count on me to test it in any alpha form too… if you can let me know a raw container that i can use, i can, instead, follow your instructions for installing the code “natively” – (copy the rheos folder from github, go to the rheos direction and npm install it etc — note, i have tried a few times with different raw images but always missing something - so let me know what you use and I can test that for you too)..
and if you want any logging data, let me know – its pretty unstable lately – it hates the heos v2 devices (my heos5, heos7, sometimes marantz sr7012 and sometimes the 4700h but has zero issues, it seems with the heos150’s, soundbar500 or the M1)..
–here is some info - hopefully it helps–
- It always resets the 5/7 to cd quality even though it can write to the config file and persists the information (stop start etc) --seems the POLING process you have gong on resets the devices - usually after a crash and restart
- when I start a new song after a while or transfer to a device, it sits at “zero” seconds – if i manually bump the time-bar it will start up and go - sometimes with a hiccup back to zero then where i moved it to…
- it does seem the poling process you have now has a “death grip” on the devices and sometimes I have to reset them (on the marantz, just hold down the power button until full reset – I dont lose any config, its some sort of soft full reboot) - for the others, sometimes I have to unplug/plug the device…
Thanks Patrick.
I think all of these will be addressed!
For anyone that’s been waiting I uploaded a new test docker image that I hope will result in some major improvements.
The AVR multi zone control is not yet updated and working. Ill take a look at this - so if you require control of zones I would not use this as yet.
Please let me know if this is of use. I am consistently using this rather than the official ROON ready release as I need to group with older players and also rely on fixed zones.
