Roon instability on MacOS since MacOS 26 OS update [Ticket in]

I am having an issue with Roon starting up on the first time trying to activate the application in MacOS 26. I will have to start the app a second time for Roon to load. This never happened to me before MacOS 26. Additionally, Roon has been having errors establishing a connection to Roon Ready or Roon Tested devices. I will try to start an album, and I just get an error message. I also have never had this issue until updating to MacOS 26.

UPDATE: These are the errors I am getting–
“Failed to Initialize Audio Device” or “Lost Control of the Audio Device”

Is there a fix for this, or do I need to wait for Roon to make an update specifically addressing MacOS 26 Tahoe?

Hi @Justin_Walsh,

Thank you for your post.

If you navigate to the Roon application in Finder, right-click and select “Get Info,” then toggle “Open Using Rosetta.”

This workaround should at least prevent Roon from crashing on startup with MacOS Tahoe, although it will take a few additional seconds to open the app.

The team has an open ticket to address this issue here:

Concerning device connectivity and dropouts, what are the specific Roon Ready and Roon Tested devices to which you’re referring? Are you hosting RoonServer on your Mac machine, or another device?

We haven’t yet seen automatic diagnostic logging reach our servers for your account - at your convenience, please use the directions found here and upload a set of RoonServer logs to our File Uploader.

Thanks!

For some additional information, I’ve been using Roon on the beta OSX 26 for a few weeks without any issues. However, this started after the Roon update this earlier week.
I’ve now changed it to work with Rosetta and it works again.

Hi @Justin_Walsh

Just to reiterate my post above - for updates concerning the crash on startup, you’ll find updates in the main tracking thread I shared.

We’ll need to do more investigation to determine the cause of the endpoint dropouts you’ve reported, however. Have you had a chance to upload logs? We’ll watch closely for a response. Thanks

So for this issue, My MacBook Air running roon (the roon core being my nucleus one connected on the network, the macbook just running the app), when I try to play music to my Schiit Bifrost 2/64, it will do the “Failed to initialize audio device.” error. Sometimes I can get roon to play by restarting roon, but yeah. it’s been this way since the MacOS 26 Tahoe update.

As for updating logs, where would I find those?

Hope that information is helpful and I apologize for the wait. Been busy with my thesis in grad school.

Hey @Justin_Walsh,

No worries at all - and best of luck on your thesis work!

We do have a fix in the works for this - we’ve typically seen the issue occur when there’s a change in the track resolution. We don’t have any specific updates to share, but progress is going smoothly. :+1:

You can use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon Server logs from your Nucleus to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!

Okay, I followed the directions, and sent the zipped logs from “RoonServer” folder into the file uploader. So you should have it now! The title is my username and then the word logs

Good day @Justin_Walsh !

I hope you’re doing well today.

We were just reviewing your logs and have spotted the patter of issues that are already described in our ticket to R&D . In other words your issue is already registered and on the way to be fixed in one of the next releases.

Please stay tuned and watch our new updates!

Regards.

Thanks, glad to hear it is a known issue scheduled to be fixed soon.

Hi @Justin_Walsh !

Yes, unfortunately, many users faced it so the priority for this one is quite high.

Regards.

Yeah, I’m using Roon at my non computer setups but at my MacBook Air setup and Mac mini setup to the dac as a Roon endpoint, I’ve basically been using audirvana until this gets fixed.

I’m not trying to promote another service, I look forward to the problem being fixed. I still love Roon and have it playing on both of my streamer setups and my Linn integrated streaming amp.

Good luck getting it fixed.

Hello All,

We have a just released a bugfix for this issue in our Early Access branch:

If you are impacted and would be willing to give Early Access a try, we would be eager to know if it helps resolve the issue on your end. Otherwise, the fix should roll out to production after testing is completed. More information regarding Early Access can be found here:

Thanks!
