· The Nucleus boots up and I can connect to it in the Roon app without issue, but I have a question about configuration/storage/attached devices

Describe the issue

Since yesterday my Roon Nucleus is constantly making noise (probably the fan). I've switched it of and on, reboot, replaced but everytime, after startup, the fan starts spinning. The device is only connected via UTP to a switch. It has enough room to ventilate and it's certainly not warm. I've checked the settings and they are all ok.

As far as I know, there is no fan in the Nucleus… and no hard disc unless you installed one to store your music files. So the noise must originate from some other source.

New generations of nucleus, One and Titan, have a fan.

If you have only just purchased the Nucleus One, and it is importing your library, it will perform audio analysis, which is quite CPU intensive.

Once this is done, you are unlikely to hear the fan, especially during normal playback.

Hello @Ben_Corten !

In your case it is likely doing a background audio analysis.

After some time it should go quit.

However, you can manage this settings in “Library” → “Background Audio Analysis Speed” option.

You can set it to throttled and it will take less of CPU power and should start heating less.

Also, you can try to disable your watched folders in order to see whether it is background analysis taking vents to go fast.

If neither is helping please try to reinstall the OS.

Regards.

Thanks guys for all input! I’ve just stopped and started the Nucleus but now by pushing the button (on the back). I normally use the internet interface to switch of and use a WOL to start. Strangely the Nucleus is now silent again! Not sure why but it seems to be running like normal.

Ideally, leave the Nucleus on 24x7, and when shutting down using the switch, note that a long press is a hard reset, and should not be used unless the device freezes. A quick press should initiate a shutdown.

Ah, we live and learn

Hi @Ben_Corten,

We’re going to mark the post above as a solution for posterity, but this thread will remain open for another day or two. Please reach out if you encounter any other issues with the unit.
