I have an ethernet connected home network with an ASUS gaming router, ethernet switches & several music servers & two amplifiers. As of today I have 137,858 songs ripped from CD’s to these servers stored in FLAC format. MY Nucleus+ server serves as the roon core & I use a DELL XPS 8950 desktop computer & Windows 11 operating system.
I have contacted the Roon community before about this problem but it seems that it has returned. The Roon remote app on my i-phone 11works for a while on my 5G network but then freezes & the only way I seem to be able to “unfreeze” it is to delete and reinstall the app. I am still able to control Roon through my DELL XPS-8950 desktop computer. Does anyone have any idea about what is causing this this problem with the Roon Remote app?
Thanks for the update, and I’m sorry to hear the issue has re-emerged! Could you please reproduce the issue and share the specific date, time and name of the track playing when the issue occurs?
Once you let me know this info, I’ll go ahead and enable diagnostics for your account so I can review the logging for clues.
If you’d rather do it yourself manually, please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader.
I have not been able to reproduce the problem while I was listening to my music; however yesterday when I went to use the Roon Remote app on my i-phone 11, it was not working. I did not reinstall it.
After that, this morning, at 11:00 am MST, in order to try to address the performance problem that I have been having with Roon, of it taking too long to find some songs, I decided to once again try to consolidate all of my songs onto my 8 TB Samsung SSD installed in my Nucleus+ server, instead of having my songs dispersed on several servers on my ethernet connected home network. Using the drag & drop feature of Windows 11, I was, this time, able to transfer 64,532 tracks that I had backed up from my other servers to a SandDisk Extreme Pro 4 TB portable SSD to my Nucleus+\Storage\Internal Storage. I estimate that approximately 1400 tracks remain to be transferred. Roon is currently “hung up” waiting for the remaining files in real time.
Do you have any suggestions about the Roon Remote app problem & Roon getting “hung up” trying to transfer my remaining music files?
I checked Library in Roon settings & it shows that it is still continuing to analyze.(see attached screen shot)
Before I tried to consolidate all of my music track onto my Nucleus+ server, Roon showed that I had the approximately 139,000 tracks in my music system across all servers.
Now after I tried to consolidate all of my music onto my one Samsung 8 TB SSD on my Nucleus+ server, Roon is now showing only 64,532 tracks. Does that mean that my transfers to the Samsung 8 TB SSD were incomplete ? Or because Roon is still analyzing will it eventually find the other tracks?
Thanks for the updates and I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues with importing tracks.
Did you create a new roon backup before starting this process? And does the 8TB SSD directly mirror your library subfolder paths (outside of being on different servers)?
Did you disable your watched folders in Roon and perform a library clean-up before attempting to import your library from the new SSD?
I have set up Roon for automatic backup on my system but I did not force a new backup at the time I started the process.
I am sorry but I do not understand your question “And does the 8TB SSD directly mirror your library subfolder paths (outside of being on different servers)?” Why is this important and how would I check this & how would I fix it?
I did disable my watched folders in Roon but did not perform a library clean-up before attempting to import my library into my 8 TB SSD.
The attached screenshot shows the progress since yesterday of Roon Library analyzing the music files that I transferred to the 8 TB SSD yesterday, but it is still not finished or is “hung up”. I cleaned up my library using Library Maintenance.
Can you advise as to what to do now in order to migrate all of my other music files to the 8TB Samsung SSD on my Nucleus+?
The reason I asked both these questions is in relation to restoring a database from a saved backup. If you updated your local library storage location but kept the same directory function, you can restore from a backup and simply edit the location directories.
What is the current status of your importing? From a recent server diagnostic report I see that your server was able to update successfully, are you still having issues getting your local library added?
Unfortunately, due to several internet outages today with my internet service provider Shaw, my browsers were not working this morning. Therefore we have had to temporarily un-bridge the ASUS router that I was using and revert to using the Modem’s router to get internet access again. So now when trying to use Roon, I am getting the message that Roon is still looking for my server and it is taking longer than normal’
However earlier this morning, when the internet was working, I checked Roon/Settings/Library and it was still stuck analyzing at the same point it was in the screenshot that I sent to you yesterday.
For some reason it appears that my drag & drop attempt to add music files to the Samsung 8 TB SSD on my Roon Nucleus+ erased the music files that I had already ripped to it. Can you explain mistake I may have made so that this does not happen again?
My internet is back up and running & my internet service provider’s modem is bridged again with my ASUS GT-AX1000 router. Roon is no longer looking for my server and under Roon/Settings/Library Roon is no longer analyzing my music files. However; although my Devialet Expert Pro 220 integrated amplifier is recognized by Roon & has been enabled, the Roon play button does not darken & I cannot play music. Also I have a portable Toshiba hard drive plugged via USB into the back of my Nucleus+ server and the scheduled backups of Roon data to it have failed. Trying to force a backup also fails. I restarted the Roon software but that did not solve these problems. Do you have any suggestions about how to fix these problems?
Thanks for the update, and sorry to hear you’re having additional issues after your network stabilized!
To confirm, have you given your devices a hard reboot since your network came back online? Specifically the Devialet.
What is the specific error message? Have you had success with this hard drive in the past, or is it a new addition to your setup? Do you know what the drive is formatted to?
Sorry, the previous email was sent without being finished. After much unplugging & replugging of cables rebooting etc., Roon began working again & Roon Remote worked for a while but at about 4:15 pm MST today it quit working again - in other words everything just froze so that I could not control Roon with Roon Remote but the songs just kept playing. I can control Roon with my desktop computer. Do you have any thoughts on why Roon Remote on my i-phone 11 keeps freezing?
Regarding not being able to back up to the portable Toshiba hard drive, I unplugged this hard drive from my Nucleus+ server & plugged it into my desktop computer. The desktop computer immediately came up with a message that there was an error on the hard drive that needed to be corrected & it invited me to do so. After I made the correction, Roon backup to the hard drive began working again.
