Roon search extremely slow - how to fix it? BUILD 1353

Poweroff works fine  But the others not, strange

Torben

Wiim app does a global search and returns almost instantly as does PlexAmp only Roon has these type of issues. Other apps search both streaming and local.

@Torben_Rick
Turn it off and on manually and check remote reboot again

Perhaps there are bios options for this functionality?

I also had yesterday the ā€œfeatureā€ that remote reboot did not work.
After power off and on, it was fine again

There cannot be any bios feature to allow/deny reboot of software on system

Just adding to this thread as a user who is experiencing search slowness and artist load slowness. Running Version 2.0 build 1357 on a Nucleus+. I have a VERY small local library (<20 ripped CDs) and only use Tidal streaming. A server reboot helps but it never is as fast as it used to be. Internet connectivity is strong.

Music controls from the iPad app also is not responsive when search is slow. I.e. stop, skip etc…

I also do not have ARC configured primarily for security reasons.

Thanks, Alan

I took my Nucleus USB music disk and attached it to a Windows machine.
Installed roon anew: the Search and rendering pages are flawless.

I tried a direct connection, with the same bad results.
(Wall Internet → Router → Nucleus via LAN → Controlling Windows / MacOS laptops connected to the same router via LAN)

So this is strictly a Nucleus issue.

I love roon so much.
Please fix it

Is anyone having issues on windows and Macs? Or is this just nucleus and rock issue? Would all my problems be solved moving back to a Mac setup?

I am using a third-party server (sonicTransporter i9) which I would think would be quite close to a Nucleus from an OS perspective, and I have no such issues.

Will be very interesting to see the OS distribution of folks who are having this issue.

I have an I5 Sonictransporter and have expierenced the same issues. Today 1/8/2024 everything is working perfectly. But to note when I have long search timing issue I notice my cpu is running very high with cores switch a load 90 percent. When searches are working my cpu load is near zero.

Interesting - could be the 20-core i9 model just doesn’t ever hit the saturation point re: CPU usage - I rarely see more than 2-3%, and generally <5% on any one core.

I’m not saying it’s a Sonictransporter issue, I spoke to Small Green Computer folks last week. This is a guess. Something at times gets hung up in Roon and causes the load to increase, comes and goes. Today everything is great. I did have a disconnect issue but that has cleared up Friday evening/Saturday morning. But the slow search raised it ugly head yesterday but gone today

Agreed it’s not a sonicTransporter issue - we’ve seen reports on this thread from a lot of folks on Nucleus, etc.

I’m am interested, though, to see if folks running Windows and / or Mac servers are also afflicted - I would assume so, since it would appear to be a Roon search optimization issue, which I would assume would reveal itself across all OSs, but Mike_Scheinkman raised an interesting question.

Intel NUC 7i7BNH running Windows 11 Pro and PlexServer, amongst other things.
I’ve not really had any significant issues until these recent updates…and the Roon team have admitted that there have been changes & ā€˜fixes’ on their back-end…

I have these issues on a desktop PC running Windows 11 (beginning 2 Roon updates ago)
Although I have occasional slow searches my hangs more frequently occur when clicking links to album or artist pages.

As far as why some experience this and some don’t: I’m wondering how many of us with this problem have artists with more than 100 albums or albums with more than 100 tracks?
I have many.
Wondering because Support replied to my ticket about this issue asking this.
And I’ve seen them ask this on other tickets with similar issues.

Edit to add: I now know there are users without 100+ albums or tracks having this issue.

I have over a hundred albums with more than 100 tracks - didn’t count exactly, but can see at least 100 in the first couple of pages of the extract.

I don’t think I have any artists with more than 100 albums - ARE there any artists with more than 100 albums (short of bootlegs or private recordings, etc.)? They’d have to be VERY prolific!

It doesn’t matter if the albums are bootlegs or whatever, just the number is important. And there are artists with extensive live archives, for instance.

And if you have albums with more than 100 tracks, then you have probably found the culprit. You don’t need artists with > 100 albums in addition to that. It seems to be an ā€žorā€œ condition, at least this is what Roon support was asking in the other threads.

I am NOT, however, having this problem  so I’m just chiming in that may NOT be the cause (or not the sole cause, or not a problem in my particular setup).

I see. There may be other factors. I don’t have the problem with ROCK either, by the way, so if it affects only/mostly Roon OS, then not always. I am not over the 100+ limit anywhere, though

Wow, your situation sounds very similar to mine: Windows 11, lots of large albums (Classical box sets) and artists with very large catalogs (Grateful Dead), and the observed slowness of my system occurs when clicking links, not search. Did you send in your ticket by starting another thread? If so do you have a link? I’d like to follow that.
