Description of Issue
After updating to the most current version of Roon using “update all” on my client, I am no longer able to connect to the Roon server from either my client machine or my iPhone remote.
After re-booting the server machine the same behaviour persisted.
I logged into the server machine and saw that the roon server process seemed to be re-starting frequently (getting a new process ID) and appeared to be continually creating /Applications/Roon.app but with zero content. It seemed that the update had not completed properly and that the roon server was in some kind of perpetual error-handling loop.
I managed to stop this cycle, downloaded the latest Roon.dmg and installed it. On running Roon.app I followed the prompts to start the Roon server on the server machine. However it seems that I can’t do this without having authorisation for a second server.
Please let me know how can I restore normal operation of Roon on my existing server without loss of my existing Roon library and configuration data.
Same for me here. After updating, roon server has completely disappeared, cannot find it on disk anymore.
And there is no link to download Roon Server for mac os on Roon’s website anymore, just Roon.
What’s going on ?
I just found out that Roon app is now on my Mac, although I never installed it, so I guess Roon Server update has removed RonnServer and replaced it with the Roon app.
After starting this Roon app, it proposed to install Roon Server …
After doing that, Roon Server is back, Imjustmneeded to check the launch at stsrtup option again. And all the albums are there, didn’t need to reconfigure the music folders …
Find my Roon Server (Nucleus, ROCK, etc.) - Find my Roon Server
Set up a Roon Server on this Mac - Use this Mac
I chose the second option, but at the time I tried, it led to the request for a second authorisation as mentioned above. Based on @Tuong’s post, I tried again and this time it brought up the Roon (client) UI. It seems it’s also started the server which can be contacted by my client machine(s). At least the authorisation problem seems to have resolved itself, perhaps just by waiting long enough.
However I don’t want to run the Roon UI on my server machine, and can’t yet see how to arrange for just the Roon server itself to be started on the server machine. Advice from Roon support would be appreciated, please.
After installing Roon Server with the GUI app (Roon), there is an icon for Roon Server on the top right corner, by clicking on it I could choose to have Roon Server started at login time.
After that I closed the Roon GUI app, then restarted my mac mini to see what happens.
Upon restart, Roon Server started by itself, and the Roon GUI app doesn’t need to be launched anymore.
