Roon skips local AIFF files

When shuffling library Roon skips my local AIFF files. Anyone know a fix?

Roon Server Machine

Yoga i7, 32 gig ram

Networking Gear & Setup Details

Verizon CR1000a, Ethernet, no vpn

Connected Audio Devices

Node USB out to PS AUDIO nuwave dac

Number of Tracks in Library

140,490 tracks in library , Qobuz

This is AIFF track that was skipped in shuffle. I was able to play it by going back and hitting play from here. It was the primary version, altho I just changed it secondary version. Hope this helps

It’s not technically possible to shuffle your whole library unless you make a playlist out of it. Can you provide more details on the steps you are taking leading up to your shuffle?

Not sure what you mean about it not being technically possible to shuffle your whole library. You can do this easily without creating a playlist. Just go to either Artists, Albums or Tracks and select Shuffle from the Play Now control. Of course there is a limit to how many tracks will be added to the queue, I believe its approx. 5000. But nevertheless, if you have a 100K track library and go to Tracks and Shuffle, it will select about 5000 random tracks to create the queue.

Right - but that is not one’s whole library. I thought it would be good to know what approach the OP is taking.

I go to albums. Hit shuffle. The AIFF files do play when not in shuffle mode

Roon Server OS is which, exactly?
Node USB out means what, exactly?
Every additional info might count to help fix the issue…

I’ve supplied what is needed for support

Good luck then…

If you use Focus on albums, and select only local files (or exclude streaming albums), what happens if you (try to) shuffle?

Just tried your suggestions, they all play if I focus just on them and shuffle. But they don’t play when combined with Qobuz tracks and shuffle. Thoughts?
Question, what happens if there is a duplicate of local file and Qobuz file, the local file is hidden, and Qobuz file is primary, shuffle on? Will it still attempt to play hidden local file but then skip it? Could that be what is happening?
Or, will Roon not even attempt to play a hidden file, whether it be a local file or Qobuz version?

I definietely have not the full ( or even right) answer, but I do believe that Roon only will take Primary albums (i.e. not hidden) albums into accounts.
On top of that, unless you intervene manually, the album with the highest resolution will be automaticallyselected as primary by Roon.
I presume that most of your local albums are cd quality (44,1kHz/16bit), most (but not all) sreaming albums will have higher resolution ( 24bit is already enough).
I don’t knowif that could be an explanation of what you are experiencing?

Thanks. Correct, all local files are 44/16. But there are many Qobuz versions at that rate. You may be right, not sure tho. Hoping support will chime in also

I have only 2 file formats in My Library, AIFF & DSF.
No problems with AIFF for 7 years .

Yea, weird that I do. Also just checked, Roon does play hidden albums

This isn’t a very community friendly answer from you. A fellow Rooner wants to help you and this was your reaction?

I think what he meant is that he went back and added detail in his OP.

If you have duplicate albums in your library, one version being local AIFF files, the other being a Qobuz version, then whichever is marked as the Primary version will be played. See:

Thanks Geoff.

So if I am shuffling my library there is no way an AIFF file should be in the queue if it is not primary. But if it is primary, it should play when it comes up in the shuffle. What is happening is that Roon is just skipping the primary AIFF track and going to the next Qobuz track. In the queue. This is what I am trying to figure out.

Also, for duplicates in library, is there a way to bulk the duplicates and make the Qobuz tracks primary?. I don’t see that as an option.

That does seem odd, and not expected behaviour. Please note the time and AIFF track title when this occurs so that @support can pinpoint it in the logs for further investigation. Thanks.

will do, thanks
