Description of Issue

I’ve been running ROCK on an intel i7 NUC without issue for years. This morning while preparing to move new music to its internal storage, I discovered the Storage folder to be empty. The folder named “Storage” exists, but it is empty. The InternalStorage folder is missing. Attached is an image.

In addition, the ROCK Web interface is not displaying the “Internal Music Storage” selection.

Thank you in advance for your help.

@Chardo, it appears your ROCK’s internal storage drive may have failed or become unseated. While I don’t have a NUC, is it possible to check if the drive is still in its socket on the NUC?

Hi Robert. Thank you for getting back to me.
I removed the internal SSD (it’s a NVMe) and reseated it. After powering up, nothing has changed. I’m still unable to see the folder.

This is the problem: the NVMe drive may only be used for the OS. That is, Roon OS is installed on this drive. The internal SSD needs to be a 2.5” drive.

And…

Hi Martin. In addition to the NVMe there is a Samsung 2 TB SATA SSD installed as well. I had forgotten which has the OS and which contains the data files as it has been several years since I built it.

Other thoughts as to what might lead to the storage directory having gone missing and how to restore it?

In that case, the NVMe is okay for Roon OS. However, the 2 TB SSD is evidently not connected, or there is an issue with it.

Thank you for pointing me to the source of the problem. I removed and re-installed the 2 TB SSD and it’s now working. Re-seating it appears to have corrected the problem. Now the trouble I have is I don’t recall how I had the storage configured. I can post this as a new question if preferred. Although I’m hoping the answer is straightforward.

My music is stored on a NAS, as well as on the internal SSD on the NUC. Do I add the NAS to the watched folders list? Or do I simply physically copy new music files from the NAS to the internal SSD on the NUC, and allow it to be identified since it’s being regularly scanned? Here’s what my watched folders currently look like:

@Chardo, glad reseating your storage drive fixed your initial issue. You have a few options:

  1. You can copy your library from your NAS to the storage drive on your NUC if the NUC storage has enough capacity. As long as you have your Roon Storage settings pointing to the NUC’s storage location, your library should be seen by Roon.

  2. You can use both the NUC and NAS as storage locations. You need to add your NAS network locations and directories to Roon’s Storage settings to be watched. Roon can watch multiple types of storage (local internal, local USB, networked/NAS) and combine all the files seamlessly, as long as Roon’s Storage settings are configured to look for all the appropriate devices.

If you need additional assistance, I recommend creating a new Support thread covering your specific questions.
