Describe the issue

I cannot create folders or navigate to any folders or files on my hard drive inside Roon. Everything i do produces an error message or leads me back in an endless loop.

I tried following instructions on support pages but all file paths i enter don't work. Seems Roon is not seeing my Mac hard drive or music folders, files.

Describe your network setup

I have Roon Nucleus installed with 4 TB internal drive formatted. It is also connected with external DAC in my Saturn R CD player and I'm able to stream radio stations and music on Tidal.

I successfully created 2 zones. One is on my mac that goes to external headphones and Klipsch speakers and second one called Roon Server that goes to external DAC.

Did you first share them on the Mac?

I accessed my mac system preferences and file sharing, then made sure that SMB file sharing is on. I am still unable to get Roon to see my computer, my hard drive and unable to navigate folders in any way.

It is hard to imagine that such a simple things has to be so difficult to do. Surely someone has encountered this issue on a mac before and determined a solution.

There are, I believe, several pointers in this thread which may help you, Howard; good luck!

Hi @Howard_Sambol,

Thank you for your patience. Let’s start with the basic network reachability of this Nucleus, since the device is currently failing to register with our servers.

What do you see when you access the web administration interface for the Nucleus? Please share a screenshot here.

Where is the Nucleus connected in your network topology? Please list any routers and network switches to which you’ve connected your Remotes and/or endpoints as well.

We’ll proceed from there. Thank you!

I was able to resolve the issue of accessing my Mac Hard drive, folders and transfered my old iTunes library to my 4 TB Roon drive.

To accomplish this i had to hire a tech expert to get the exact paths and IP addresses, etc. This in my view is a technical task and it is not reasonable to expect all Roon customers to figure this out.

If i tried to continue doing this on my own, I’m sure it would have taken me several weeks of trial and error or longer to get the result.

So my feedback is that your Roon product is outstanding with features and ultimatre benefits but it has many serious shortcomings in the setup process and even your many pages do not really help people without seriosu technical knowledge.

Now I have a new learning curve ahead of me learning all aspects of Roon with music but it welcome now that I’ve crossed over this difficult rubicon.
