Describe the issue
I am using a sonicorbiter transport connected to an opitcalrendu. It has been working fine, but now when I open Roon, it says it is searching for Roon OS server. The sonicorbiter is connected by Ethernet cable and appears in my network connections as does the optical rendu
Describe your network setup
I am using a modem, router and network extenders all provided by spectrum cable. All wireless extenders, sonicorbiter, opticalrendu, MacBook Pro and iPhone 15 appear to be on the same subnet.
Thank you for reaching out, and a big thank you to @Arlen for pointing you in the exact right direction!
Because Roon recently underwent a major infrastructure update, the underlying operating system running your Roon Server must meet new compatibility requirements. If your Sonicorbiter is running an older version of its proprietary operating system (anything below version 2.8), it is no longer compatible with the latest Roon Server build. This is exactly why your remotes are suddenly unable to find it on the network, even though the device itself is powered on and connected.
Next Steps:
You will need to update the operating system on all of your Small Green Computer devices—this includes both your Sonicorbiter (your Roon Server) and your opticalRendu (your endpoint).
You can typically perform this update by navigating to the Sonicorbiter web GUI (usually accessible by going to sonicorbiter.com or by typing the device’s IP address into your web browser) and running the Software Update tool.
If the issue persists: Because the Sonicorbiter and opticalRendu are proprietary devices manufactured by Small Green Computer, our technical team does not have direct access to troubleshoot their internal operating systems. If a full software update does not resolve the connection issue, or if you need specific guidance on how to perform the OS update on those specific units, you will need to reach out directly to Small Green Computer Support for further assistance.
Please let us know if the software update gets you back up and running!
Thank you. Yes, the sonicorbiter software is version 2.7 and the optical rendu is 2.8. I’ve tried updating them but not sure it’s going through. I’ll try again today with the help of a friend and see if it works. Reading on the small green computer site, it does seem like contacting them will be needed.
