another voice of displeasure after the latest roon build. I’m using a small green computer sonic transporter i5. same issues described all over this thread. roon, the problem is on your end, fix it please.
Sounds to me like a memory leak or some processes getting into a loop and slowing down everything as a result. Surely not all problems reported here should be blamed on underpowered CPU as some users have really powerful machines.
But there is reason to believe that some machines are underpowered and that gets revealed by a new build such as the current one. That happened in the past when the software shifting slightly the way how internal processes work and how much computing power is needed for what, bringing some underpowered CPU to their tipping points and finally their limits. That is nothing new, the same happened to my older NAS (carrying the aforementioned Celeron J4025) in early 2023 with a rather unnoticed build version.
Absolutely same symptoms back then. That’s why I share this story which will surely not be helpful for every single user but maybe for some.
Using Roon on a NUC10 i7 directly connected to my router and through a Bonn N8 switch to the endpoints. Never had any lost of signal or speed. The Raat protocol is very demanding on the route it will travel through your network and system.
My opinion is to quit or at least try to quit the fancy network stuff, your windows machine to get the best Roon experience.
I know not possible for everyone but many music lovers invest thousands in a piece of cable. Think investing in a NUC will bring you more.
Just my thoughts.
Maybe this helps now
Me too. Happening every few minutes this evening .
Hey Everyone,
Thanks for chiming in with your status updates on performance issues! We’re still investigating the more widespread issue, I suggest each user to create their own support thread if they haven’t yet.
For @jager specifically - I’d be curious to test (temporarily) if you removed Tidal from your library, does the performance still appear sluggish?
Before doing anything - please make a fresh backup of your current database.
After that, disable Tidal and perform a library clean up. From there, see how things perform and let me know - it’d be useful information for our development team.
Thanks!
Thanks @benjamin
That sounds scary
When I click disable and go to “Library Clean up” I get the following options. Do I leave them all unchecked or did you want me to delete the 14k files associated with disabled storage locations? Or just leave them all unchecked and click Clean Library. Just want to make sure before I go and screw something up here!
Check the options, otherwise it’ll not do anything.
As mentioned there also this part is completely on Roon‘s side. And too there are many different backend components for the various tasks. So before people with high end computers wondering why things are so slow, I think it’s best to further follow the route of investigating the Roon backend in detail.
Though a part of the problems can still be in the interaction remote - user core/server.
I think some can follow your experiences. Do you know why didn’t get an appropriate reply from support?
Hi @jager,
Understandably so! That’s where the backup comes into play. You can restore from your recently saved backup and everything will restore as it was.
If the only thing you’ve removed is your Tidal account, then yes go ahead and keep that box checked and perform the library clean up. It will remove all of your tidal content, to which I’m curious on how things then perform overall.
After you test things, let me know how they go and you can restore from your backup you’ve made prior to performing the clean up.
Yes, my Roon setup is very, very slow after the update. I have a Roon Nucleus +, and the slowdowns were very obvious after the update. I also noticed music would stop sometimes and I would have to press play to get it going. I rebooted the Nucleus a few times, but it didn’t help. So powered it down, let it sit awhile, and brought it back up. The dropouts were cured by doing that. (Memory leak? Hadn’t powered down the Nucleus since I installed it a couple of years ago). But the system is still very, very slow. Select an album, and it can take 30 seconds for its page to appear. Pretty much all actions involving Roon are slow. Roon is on a gigabit ethernet network which otherwise is performing well.
Same problem here. After update Roon got slowly to death. After some rebooting seems to improve but not.
