· Dear Roon Support Team,

Good afternoon.

Yesterday, I installed the latest Roon update on my system. I am currently running Roon on a Mac Mini (2012) with macOS Catalina. Unfortunately, this Mac can no longer be upgraded to a newer version of macOS.

Following the update, I would like to perform a rollback so that I can continue using Roon together with my existing backups. At the moment, however, I am unable to determine where the Roon backup files are stored on my Mac Mini.

In the meantime, I have ordered a new Mac Mini. My intention is to install Roon on the new machine and restore my existing backups, including all of my tags and library data.

Could you please advise me on the steps I can take to:

Continue running Roon on my current 2012 Mac Mini with macOS Catalina, if possible.
Locate and secure my existing Roon backups.
Successfully migrate my Roon installation, backups, and tags to the new Mac Mini.

I must admit that this situation is quite frustrating. It would be very helpful if future Roon updates could verify operating system compatibility before installation, or at least provide a clear warning when the installed macOS version is no longer supported. In this case, that concerns macOS Catalina.

I would greatly appreciate your guidance and look forward to your response.

Thank you for your assistance.

Kind regards,

Ronald, Hoogezand, Netherlands

Hi @RoCr,

Thank you for your post and we’re sorry for the inconvenience.

The Roon update to version 2.65 on April 27 (see the release notes here) raised the minimum requirements for Roon Server to MacOS 12 to ensure security and stability moving forward. You can find a temporary installer here to roll back to the earlier version of Roon supported by MacOS 10.

As for your Roon Backup location, this will be whatever folder location you selected when you configured the Backup. When you install the rolled back version of Roon above, you should be able to open Roon again and check under Settings → Backups to find them.

When the new machine arrives and the time comes to migrate to the new server, here is a guide you can use:

You’ll essentially use a Backup to move your database to the new machine, but there are a few nuances for ensuring everything scans/imports correctly when you move your library itself.

We’ll watch for your response and are happy to answer any questions. Thank you!

An alternative solution is to install a later version of macOS using OpenCore Legacy Patcher.
