rooNuimo – best Roon controller ever

I am also having Bluetooth connectivity issues with RPI4.

The Nuimo will disconnect from the PR and then constantly flash the bluetooth symbol. Any guidance would be helpful.

Thank you!

I have found the TP link makes this happen less but it does still happens a bit. I’m guessing it’s caused by the Nuimo disconnecting from the Pi.
I find that I have to Pop the power out if the Pi and restart it and then power cycle the Nuimo and it’s back up and running. I have asked the Doctor to put a reboot option on the RooExtend web page to make it easier.
Hopefully some other software tweak’s will also help

Hi Alex,
please search for “bluetooth” in this tread.

I already wrote a lot about this issue and also some few others. To make the long story short: Too much 2.4GHz traffic at your location. Try a Bluetooth USB dongle, this should fix the issue. BT of the Pi is not very strong so it may get disturbed by others signals on the same frequency band like WiFi.

hi. Sorry if this had been answered elsewhere, but I could not find via search.

Does anything need to be done in order to make the Dongle work?
I plugged the UB400 into the Rpi4 and it frequently connects then disconnects.

Thank you

I am having this same exact issue.

You mean you see the Nluetooth symbol during playback?
Have you rebooted the Pi after inserting the Bluetooth dongle?

I’ve seen the Nuimo having difficulties connecting to the rpi as well, usually right after I switch it back on after one or more days of not having listened.

Easily solved for me by force scanning the rpi for Bluetooth devices (bluetoothctl scan on) after ssh’ing into the device. Never bothered to report it, mostly because I’m running my own raspberry pi os sdcard for a variety of reasons. And I didn’t want to bother DrCWO with unsupported setups

I’ve seen this exactly once and for me it was easily solved by powering off the nuimo, then rebooting the rpi and finally, turning the nuimo back on.

My exact solution as well. 100% successful within about 20 second’s of rebooting the Pi turn the Nuimo off and on and it takes 5-7 second’s to connect and get the tick

The TP Link has made it better, but it has not completely gone away.

This is interesting!
With my test scenario in my listening room I never switch off the Nuimo nor the Pi. The Nuimo goes to sleep and when sleeping the battery stays fine for a very long time. This means I always just press the Nuimo if I want music to start.
And this scenario is rock solid. I never have the issue that he Nuimo looses connection.
I will try to switch it off and see if this changes anything.
Best DrCWO.

I usually keep the rpi on but turn off the nuimo. On my end, I’ll try keeping it powered on and see what happens.

Yes. I usually turn off both devices and wait 20 seconds or so. Then I turn on the Pi, let it boot, and then turn on the Nuimo.

It initially connects, but every few interactions with the nuimo, it looses connection and the bluetooth symbol starts flashing.

This is a sign of weak Bluetooth or too strong WiFi nearby. They both share the same frequency band and can interfere with each other especially if you live in a crowded suburban area.
Please try to operate the Pi with wired Ethernet and try to install it somewhere else (different place in your room). The USB stick is recognized automatically after reboot of the Pi and helped in most of these cases.

@DrCWO I don’t get any Haptic feedback from my Nuimo. What am i doing wrong?
Thank you.

rooNuimo doesn’t have haptic feedback as far as I know. Does the nuimo itself even do haptic feedback?

No haptics hardware in Nuimo, sorry…

Here we are: the New Release of rooExtend v2.1.0 is out!
I added a lot of new features for the Nuimo! Details here in my announcement:

Hi DrCWO!

I’m using rooNuimo now for a while and I’m satisfied. Ok, the Nuimo is loosing BT connection to my Raspi from time to time, but after that the reconnection is fast.

I now have a very special problem and maybe you can solve this with a software upgrade. I’m using an Allo USBridge with Allo DigiOne HAT as networkplayer/renderer and feed my Trinnov Amethyst with the signal of the DigiOne.

So my main Roon playback zone is the Allo DigiOne. All controls like play, pause, skip forward, skip backward and so on are leaded to this zone by choosing the zone in the rooNuimo setting of Roon.

But… Allo DigiOne has no volume control! What I would need is all controls of Nuimo to my zone DigiOne and ONLY the volume control of Nuimo to a (selectable?) other Roon zone. In this case my Amethyst zone.

Would this be a possible change in the software?

Why not use the Amethyst diretly to stream Roon? I don’t understand the Use case…

Yes, I can use the Trinnov direct via LAN from Roon. But the audio renderer inside Trinnov is weak. Trinnov is perfect for digital signal manipulation and optimization, but has some weak points.

Therefore I’m using an Allo USBridge with DigiOne HAT as renderer before leading the digital signal - reclocked - to the Trinnov.

Alternatively I could use another network player like Linn or Lumin for the same purpose but with a much higher price. The problem itself with the volume control would still exist because the Trinnov is my pre-amplifier and master of the volume, but not master of the playback.

On top: SPDif does not support volume controls.
