rooNuimo – best Roon controller ever

Have you selected the correct output device the the rooNuimo setting?

Yes, and I have it working again now… But again the range is less than 2 Meters and if I remove the dongle the volume continues to work. So it seems it defaults to the onboard BT.

My thought is that because I originally paired the Nuimo with the onboard BT – it is defaulting to this.

Is there a way to force a reset on the Nuimo?

For anyone else following this here thanks to @DrCWO I was able to access the RPI terminal and disable the onboard Bluetooth. Note: use the RFKILL command. I also disabled the onboard WiFi as I will be hardwired. These two changes have resulted in range increase from <2 meters to about 5 meters.

Good investigative work Henry

Maybe @DrCWO could make these options in 2.3 via the web interface.
Seems like it might solve a number of issues and make this already great system even better

another option:

Can you supply a step by step method to do this please.
I would dearly like to do this myself but do not know what the password is?

I take it we should be using ssh pi@ipaddress?

@Henry_Svendblad Please no credantials here in the public thread

This approach may help or may not. I tested it before in my study and got no improvement.
But I will integrate it in the next beta release.

As I am om holiday during the next two weeks I guess this must wait till I am back :sleepy:

It looks like something has changed recently in the way that external adapters are handled by Raspberry PI OS. When I started using rooNuimo and added bluetooth dongle the external dongle was used by default (as long as it was connected during device startup) Now hciconfig shows that with the external dongle connected, the onboard adapter is being used by default.
That’s the behavior I can see now on Raspberry PI 3 freshly updated and on Raspberry PI 4 with rooExtend 2.2.0

Hi - I wonder if anyone can help me with a question.
I have a Nuimo running on a pi400. I bought it to upgrade from the Dial. I’ve just set up the Dial on a pi zero 2w to use in a different room - and have a separate license for both and both show up as licensed in RooExtend. It seems that within Roon though I have to choose either Nuimo or Dial in the RooExtend settings and it seems I cant use both at the same time. I knew they had to be on 2 different Pi boxes but hadn’t realised I couldn’t run them both at the same time.
Is this correct or have I missed something? Thanks!

On the same Pi you can run rooDial OR rooNuimo, not both together.
If you have two Pis you can run rooDial on one and rooNuimo on the other Pi.

Thanks DrCWO.
I didn’t realise that you end up with 2 rooExtend extensions in Roon - makes sense now. Took a few attempts but I’ve got both up and running now!
Thanks again for you swift responses useful software.
Neil.

All of you having issues with the distance between Pi and Nuimo AND who use a USB-BT-Stick may download the v.2.2.1 Beta 3 from here.

This turns off power from internal BT and WiFi if an external BT USB Stick is there and your Pi is connected by Ethernet.

@Piotr_Pekala pointed me to this and I was able to fix it just before my holiday starts.

I pray it will help

Fantastic! Thank you and enjoy the vacation!

I have one of these as well. Does not work with Roon but works well for my Sonos. No comparison in features and build quality. These are as cheap as you would expect for 16 bucks.

Sorry I am confused about this @DrCWO, it turns off WiFi if your Pi is connected by Wifi?

I ask this because for the next week or so I have to connect via WiFi and not ethernet, so I just want to turn off BT (that’s until my ethernet switch arrives and I can get it set up)

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I corrected it.
I meant “it turns off WiFi if your Pi is connected by Ethernet

I have rooNuimo running for a while. Great product! Currently I am using a Raspberry Pi 4. Yesterday I tried to replace the Pi4 with a Pi zero. With the rooExtend_v2.1.3 NUIMO-HUB.zip the Pi zero would not boot. Then I used the image rooExtend_v2.1.3.zip. Now the Pi zero booted and appeared after configuration in the Roon extensions. I could without problems install the license. This looked great but I did not manage to pair it with the Nuimo controller. The old Pi4 was turned off to prevent the Nuimo controller to connect to it. Any tip how I can get the Nuimo controller paired with the Pi zero?

Bernd the good Doctor has gone on holiday now (I believe so you might have to wait for an official reply) but I am sure a number of people will tr6to help with this issue you have.

Did you release the license from the old Pi4, as the licenses are locked to the first device used with until you release them

The Nuimo doesn’t seem to lock itself to a specific Pi so if the Nuimo is on when the Pi boots up it should find it and you should see it in the advanced section of the RooNuimo extension settings.

Thank you Michael for the quick reply!

The license was not the problem. I revoked it on the old Pi and installed it on the Zero once I saw it in the Extensions. All of that worked great. Just the pairing did not work.

I had a problem with the pairing before. I have another Zero for a Microsoft Dial. When I installed the Nuimo I made a few mistakes and got problems with the Nuimo connecting to the wrong Pi. I finally got the correct connection by taking the Pi I wanted to use for the Nuimo and the Nuimio controller to another room, away from the Pi used for the Dial. Then I got the connection setup. Since then the system is working without problems.
