rooWatch - Smart control for Roon using Apple Watch and Siri

Hi @Juergen_Reis, you can try this:

  • open the Watch app on you iPhone
  • tap ‘General’, then ‘Return to Clock’, then ‘RooWatch’, then ‘Custom’, and select ‘After 1 hour’

I had the same issue you mentioned, and this solved it for me.

Great. Thank you very much for this detailed information and yes, this “solved” my “problem” as I do have with this settings then at least for 1 hour a remaining display on the Apple Watch, of what I do play / hear with Roon. Thanks. Really a great help!

Is it possible to get and install the rooWatch extension separately from the rooExtend image? I’d like to install it into my existing Pi without dedicating a whole box to it.

Not possible.

Hi @Klaus_Engel
Is it possible to run rooExtend and rooWatch in a VM?

Wondering about options to co-locate with Roon Server on a new Mac mini?

Thanks

No, we do not support running rooExtend in a VM.

Just bought Roowatch. Loving it. One more remote at my fingertips. Only real issue I have is with Siri.

I removed the auto start music app.
I enabled Siri to use roowatch.
I rebooted the watch.

If I use Siri with roowatch open, I can’t just say “play nirvana“. It says I don’t understand. If I say play nirvana in roowatch, that works every time.

This is on a Watch Ultra 2 on watch is 18 latest beta

For me even if I have the app running, and I allowed use Siri with roowatch, I still need to say “in roowatch“ or it won’t do it.

Is there still a trial license available for RooWatch? Thanks

What I offer is an annual license for $18. But no more trial for a wheek or a month. Sorry.

I bought the annual license, it’s working great, thanks

Hello @Klaus_Engel,

It would be really cool to have a way to use this with Apple Home or Siri without having to open the roowatch app.

For example Hey Siri play Nirvana on roosiri (or even better, without!) and it simply plays. Or to have a widget on iPhone that lets me control and see what’s playing

Hi All,
Other seem to have similar problems…
I have both a Qobuz account (for Roon) and the Apple Music account (for other family members). When I say “Siri, play X” into my watch, it defaults to Apple Music, even if I am currently “in” the RooWatch app. Is there a way to bypass this? When I say “Tell Roowatch to play x”, I get an error “Sorry, rooWatch hasn’t added support for that with Siri.”

I’m using the latest available version of all software, Jan 2025. Any idea on how to make Siri work?

Make sure you have rooWatch enabled on the watch in Settings->Siri->Use with Siri, then reboot the watch.
Note that Siri support in rooWatch is experimental since the Roon API has limited support for searching tracks.
@Shokunin will look into this - no promises.

I have earlier installed the rooWatch on my iPhone and then completely set up my iPhone as a new one. What I discovered was that, after I installed all my applications again, the rooWatch app appeared to be grayed out.

Therefore, I came here again on the support forum, to seek for guidance and instructions.

This is not what I was expecting from such an expensive application - not to able to install it, to see it grayed out, and to have a need for searching for instructions.

You have to install rooWatch from the AppStore on your Apple Watch.

I managed to find the app on the App Store from my Apple Watch, and I installed it from there.

I was reading this forum, hoping for the same capability. I already have an existing DietPi VM with wired ethernet. Was hoping to avoid having to dedicate another Raspberry Pi device just for rooWatch. Is this on the roadmap?

I’m sorry, I can’t support anything but the image.

Hi DrCWO

I am indeed very happy with the roowatch app on my Apple Watch. Can I install the watch application on 2 watches. - me and my wife so she can also control the music? If I need an additional license, can I install 2 on the same Raspberry Pi 4?

Thanks for a great app.
