But via USB is exact the way ProJect does it with the combo StreamBox/PreBox S2?!?
I think/hope the master/hifi USB port on Allo USBridge Sig delivers clean +5V because they use a clean internal PSU for this part of the pcb.
No. The Pi3 has not enough cpu power for HQP. Use a NUC with i7 if you want HQP on a standalone unit.
It all depends on the taste! You have to try several filters.
Poly-sinc ext2 is a good compromise for me. It sounds good to my ears for classical, rock/pop and vocals. Plus, it’s not too CPU-hungry.
As far as I remember with DietPi on USBridge, NAA and RoonBridge can run continuously, no need to stop one to run the other. With Ropieee I don’t know.
At the server application level (Roon or HQPlayer), it is however necessary to disable unused endpoint link to avoid conflict as they cannot access the USB DAC simultaneously:
- When i use directly Roon DSP engine (RoonBridge) i kill HQPlayer or release the USB device from HQP settings.
- When i use Roon + HQPlayer engine (NAA) i disable RoonBridge endpoint in Roon settings > audio.

if you mean having both protocols enabled at the same time… yes: installed RoPiee XL a few minutes ago and, as I was wondering the very same, can confirm it works 
(you can enable various protocols in XL but… no option to disable Roon’s RAAT 
)

Turn off Roon bridge in RoPieee or DietPi and HQP will work. You don’t need Roon bridge enabled

Hi John, you wanted updates…!!! Streamer in Silver with screen central to chassis this time. This is the too much money version where the added SQ for $$$ $pend was too small to matter, so this prototype is the ‘stop spending’ version and is a now a permanent fixture in the lounge HiFi.

So Morten, feeding your DAC with DSD512 is perfectly reliable using USBridge SIG and Ropiee XL 2.450 / NAA & RoonBridge ? Confirmation (no drops, no pops, no clicks) ?

Nice! Looking forward to more reports regarding the affordable version. The large screen is very nice from the standpoint of visibility and function (and probably cost as well - is it the standard 7" RPi touchscreen?). It would be doubly nice if it could be somehow integrated into the chassis – but that would require a taller custom case and bring the $$$ way up, not down. Keep on with it!

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is 7” showing RoPieee and a remote control; I did have it in a full height chassis which makes the unit big + agreed with family and friend that felt it looked bloated at 130mm high (have some ideas to compensate a little on this). I milled out for a 5” which fits the chassis front plate, it looked good yet similar to other products. Now understand the software coding needed/cost to write a Linux bolt-on screen app to combine multi-apps for a screen i$ complex and high.
I home auditioned the Auralic G1 which has a 4” screen … nice as it is yet too small when you are away from the unit for my use, from my sofa the data/art looked too small. BTW my ‘stop spending’ prototype IMHO (biased) sounded better (A/B switching, same pressure levels, blind button presses. Etc).
I feel a screen + roon is key and to loose RoPieee screen visibility would be a real shame. 5” is a compromise to consider and worthy of a market survey …. SO, if anyone wishes to voice an opinion please reply and I can open a new thread etc.

Hmm, just booted up RopieeeXL on my new Allo USBridge Sig - but this hat is not available in setup menu. Only Allo BOSS DAC and Allo DigiOne are listed.
What is wrong? Version 2.450 Beta
uhhhh… The USBridge Signature is… an USB device.
So I’m not sure what you’re trying to configure here. It runs out of the box.

Phantastic! It works, much, much better than expected! This is the sudden death of my Pro-Ject StreamBox.
The Allo USBridge Sig provides me all my needs: Roon endpoint and HQPlayer endpoint in one device, serving data via USB to my Pro-Ject PreBox S2 Digi (the USB port is the best port to connect to this DAC).
HQPlayer upsampling to DSD512 does not impress my MacBook Pro very much, the CPU is 80% idle (poly-sinc-ext2 and ASDM7). Ok, it’s an 8-core i9…
The sound is fantastic, just listening to David Garrett, I know his style very good because of many, many live concerts I visited - never heared his violin-playing technique so real at home!
@volpone: no clicks, no pops, no dropouts so far. And my network is only CAT5. I’m quite sure clicks, pops and other weird stuff result from weak CPU power for HQPlayer.

Perfect if USBridge SIG supports DSD512 streams with Ropieee (as specified by ALLO). This is the case with HQPlayer / NAA and probably also with Roon / RoonBridge (and ASIX Ethernet controller drivers last version).
Depending on filter and modulator choice DSD512 resampling can indeed cause problems, mainly stuttering, if you don’t have required CPU power upstream (on the computer running HQPlayer or Roon Core / Server).
