Why even own a TV? You’ll be entertained only by music from now on!

Congrats. That’s a spectacular set-up.

The May has arrived !

The beautiful boxes.

Installed where the Spring was. Power supply under Nakamichi Dolby C Decoder (for Reel to Reel) on second bottom shelf.

Summary: Loving it. Should have done it years ago. Better detail, transients, noise floor and separation. Deeper soundstage. More precise and palpable imaging. A real step up in fidelity.

Here’s Perplexity’s take on the best 5 cover version ever……

Identifying the best cover versions of songs can be subjective, but several renditions have gained critical acclaim and cultural significance over the years. Here are five of the most celebrated cover songs that stand out:

1. “All Along the Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix

Originally written and performed by Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix’s version of “All Along the Watchtower” is often regarded as one of the greatest covers ever. Released in 1968, Hendrix transformed the song with his iconic guitar work and a more intense arrangement, making it a defining piece of rock music and overshadowing Dylan’s original in popular culture

2. “Hurt” by Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash’s cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt,” released in 2002, is a poignant reflection on life, regret, and mortality. Cash’s raw, emotional delivery adds a layer of depth that resonates profoundly with listeners, making it a standout rendition that has been widely praised for its sincerity and artistry

3. “Respect” by Aretha Franklin

Originally written and performed by Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin’s version of “Respect” became an anthem for the feminist movement and civil rights. Released in 1967, Franklin’s powerful vocals and reimagined lyrics turned the song into a declaration of empowerment, solidifying her status as the “Queen of Soul”

4. “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston’s rendition of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” featured in The Bodyguard soundtrack, is another iconic cover. Released in 1992, Houston’s powerful vocal performance brought new life to the song, making it a global hit while honoring Parton’s original composition

5. “With a Little Help from My Friends” by Joe Cocker

Joe Cocker’s soulful interpretation of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends,” released in 1968, is celebrated for its emotional depth and unique arrangement. Cocker’s raspy voice and passionate delivery transformed the upbeat original into a heartfelt ballad that resonated with audiences worldwide

Here is the “classical” album we want you to: a) test on your system b) dive into the debate over where Roon got the “classical” genre tag… Maybe it is classical? Maybe Roon has no idea what classical is?

Additionally, this “classical” artist did a session at KEXP about a year ago… Well worth checking out…

I have no trouble calling this contemporary classical music. I don’t listen to contempory classical very much. However, at least when I looked, Roon is now classifying it as Jazz. Maybe because one of the tracks seems to honor a Polish Jazz pianist, Komeda.

Electronica is good to show off a system. These tracks have bass, but not very much thunder. Dynamic range is more than a pop song but not over the top.

Wikipedia (which should never be used as a reference for anything) says that she shifted away from a New Classical style in her previous album… it doesn’t say what she shifted to. Maybe it is Semi-Electronica music?

I don’t think of it as Jazz because it doesn’t seem to have improvisations and abstractions I’m used to hearing in Jazz. Possibly, it’s “New” Jazz.

Some of the things that make it Classical; Rani is a classically trained musician (so is Sting ?). She has two albums published by DGG. The audience waits until the work is finished before they applaud. In “It Comes In Waves” she seems to announce a theme and then play variations over it… that’s kinda’ classical.

But, overall, I think this is good stuff and will stand the test of time. “The classical is that which is always modern.” Bronko Yirka.

I think I’ll use it as the lobby music on my upcoming movie night.
