Search by record label outside library

Do you know if the Qobuz API exposes this functionality to third parties so that Roon could simply access it? I suppose Roon must build their own instead. Roon moved the artist/album search functionality to the Roon cloud to improve on its not-so-great functionality, and it’s still not where it should be. Label search and listing would be great indeed, and it can be done. I’m just saying that it is probably not easy, and like it or not, Roon clearly can’t do many large projects in parallel - and they had quite a few going over the past few years.

There will be some PM reading and prioritizing based on persistent feedback, so I recommend continuing to make noise, week after week, month after month, year after year.

I think it all comes down to this and it’s not as if they don’t know

Considering the poll was started three and a half years ago, I doubt Roon is listening to us either way. This has been one of my most wanted features since 1.6. But seeing as search is such a mess, I doubt this will ever come about.

sorry - done. thanks for the headsup

You want this implemented? You care about discovering new music via labels?

From a product management perspective a survey is one of the most important quantitative and qualitative moments to decide what to build next. If you want this feature, let yourself be heard in the survey: Roon Labs User Survey

This is a long-standing issue. Roon will only show label results within our libraries. One cannot search by label, outside the library, on Tidal.

I made a proposal that this feature be included in future updates. But people much more knowledgable than I am say it would be much harder to do than it appears.

14 posts were split to a new topic: Moving comments into PM for proper Roon Tracking [Search by Label]

Came here after my surprise discovery that Roon doesn’t do this already.

Wanted to find all the Hyperion Records recordings that have been released on Qobuz. Looks as though I am off to the Qobuz app instead.

I have been advised to post this here under “Feature Suggestions”.

I know Im not the only one that has voiced a request so that users can search by Record Label.

Can this be implemented?

Regards

You posted this in the feature suggestions for professional home automation, Feature Suggestions

It should normally be in the general Feature Suggestions

However, as a quick search shows, there is already this existing suggestion, where you can add your vote:

Ok cool… thanks for letting me know

But you can already search by label. Maybe something else is meant?

If you click by EMI, for instance, you will see that it only shows EMI releases that are already in your library, because what clicking the search result actually does is configuring a Focus in My albums.

The thread I linked was about search by label for content outside of one’s library. I realize that I am not sure what @Bill_Turner wanted, but commonly people want to find all releases by some label, not just the ones they already know about.

Edit: Which probably is pointless for huge majors like EMI, but makes sense for, e.g., small indies or techno labels

It’s going to vary but personally I find searching on labels in my library much more useful mostly because I have control over the edits. For example with classical I usually want to know what the label in my library is because I have different DSP profiles I prefer depending on the house recording/miking style. With Pop or Jazz I find that selecting on label often gives a more consistent shuffle than the one I get with radio.

The main problems I find with searching on label outside my library where I have no control over the edits is 1) the patchiness of metadata, 2) the inconsistency of the equivalencing. For example, Qobuz has a search on label but it does seem to get more patchy with more niche labels. I don’t know about Tidal but it is probably similar. Also, Qobuz does seem to have a different equivalencing policy to roon in that for example it will group the indie labels “Drag City” and “Drag City Records” together rather than separating them. Another example, perhaps more familiar, is ECM and ECM New Series. No doubt there are other dependencies making this a more difficult ask than it looks.

Well, you can already search for labels in your library, so you are covered. When people want what is the topic of this request, I suppose they mean searching for correct/existing metadata.

An example… I want this feature because there are some small labels for which I want to checkout any of their releases. I can’t do that right now, because Roon will not search outside of my library. Meaning I have no way, within Roon, to find new releases by label.
