I used Google and at least it found some posts out of the million forum posts about it.

Is there any trick for looking up a band whose name consists entirely of articles (ex: "The The")?

I guess articles are automatically stripped out of search terms to avoid a bunch of false hits, but that approach breaks down when you hit the edge case of a band whose name is nothing but articles. I just tried looking up The The, and got nothing directly related. I tried putting quotes around the whole search, in case that might force the string to be treated literally, but it didn’t help. In general, is there any notation accepted by the Roon search which forces the entered search string t…

It always affected some people more than others. For some it just took a few seconds more, some got „can’t connect“, and I can’t recall if it caused crashes

For me when doing the search it spins and spins and drops the server then reconnects and continues trying to search rinse and repeat.

I only did the search because Darko mentioned it on YouTube. Found it on tidal and faved it.

This has been like this since December last year. Tbh it’s quite embarrassing. For me takes between 9-12 secs to return search on the band. Roon have been made aware of this many times yet still nothings changed. As soon as you search you can see all cores 8 in my case spike really high when you engage search for this band. No other app has this problem. Disabling streaming services also makes little impact.

It’s a good album just not much different to previous ones. But he’s unique really so not sure that’s an issue.

In contrast, PlexAmp wins the day

I have posted screen recordings of the difference between Roon searching for The The and PlexAmp on another forum, including htop results.

What Roon does in taking 6-8 cores and running for 10-15 seconds is off the charts crazy. PlexAmp uses one core and returns an almost instant response.

Now I have The The in my library (8 ripped and downloaded media) plus searching Qobuz and Tidal seems to kick the crap out of Roon. I bought the albums I didn’t own to have them in local media only but it not make any difference.
It is certainly improved for me on what it was a year ago, but progress is slow. It used to fail about 60-80% of the time and now it succeeds around 80% of the time.

Another user @UliR gave me the perfect solution, create a Bookmark and never worry about searching for The The again (of course I am getting old and I forget)

I had an update to roon server come in this evening? Does this relate? Well anyway I do get a response on The The now. Its smacks my server around:

Compared to say a frank zappa search

But its working!

It tends to work better after an update because it restarts the Roon server
So a regular restart of the Roon service could help with your The The search problem.

Same results here. Took about five seconds to come up with the same list that you have. Searching for the new album by title gives an instant result. I have just over 100,000 songs in my local library + Qobuz subscription. I did not see any cpu meltdown during the search. Roon core running from Intel i5-8259U CPU @ 2.30GHz 16 GB RAM. The device has two connected USB drives, one for Roon library, the other for Plex movies. Can’t say i’ve ever had any issues since I swapped from running everything on a QNAP NAS.

Perhaps its a docker thing. My server has 64gigs ram, I don’t think the hardware is the issue.
