Nice looking SOtM rack! I just got the sms-200 Ultra Neo and the tX-USB ultra. How much of a difference does the SOtM power supply make? Is it a noticeable improvement over using the sms-200 Ultra Neo and the tX-USB ultra by themselves?
Thanks!
Wow brilliant!
My office in the Netherlands
This is my system. A custom passive PC with AudioLinux installation > AQ Carbon USB Cable > Aqua LaScala Optologic > Townshend Allegri+ with Fractal interconnets > Audiopax Model88 Monoblocks > Townshend Fractal speaker cables > Wolf von Langa “Son” Field coil speakers. Everything is isolated with Townshend seismic springs. Plus I tried my best with room acoutics. Software is Roon and nothing else. (There is a NAS on the network elsewhere).
That’s not a woonboot
Now that’s what i call a good-looking setup.
Small update to my system; I’ve replaced the Kudos X2 for X3. I really enjoyed the X2 but I wanted a little more bass impact and slightly higher volume levels without the ports chuffing. The X3 seemed like the logical solution.
What’s in a name
Thank you, Phil. It‘s a balancing act between sound quality and optical requirements. The combo Naim/Sonus Faber does a great job, brought back the warm sound my oldschool systems had when I was a teenager and yet it is crisp and clear.
Lovely room, and i like the cabinet and paint color as well.
Thank you! As for the small stand holding up the phono preamp, it is a rinky dink stand I found at a thrift store. I spray painted the MDF platform with a flat black then used some Herbies Gabon Ebony balls I had that were unused, as I put the corresponding clear Herbies Isocups under the turntable shelf for isolation. I think it looks pretty cool.
Did the X3 solve your issues?
Ah great ! Field coil speakers in a beautiful setting with non-parallel room and care for acoustics, congrats! I heard it and I love it, for their ease and low intrinsic distorsion. These Von Langa look beautiful! No doubt this system is above many. I will take a look at the Townshend seismic springs.
I suggest you try HQplayer. Coupled to Roon seamlessly, especially with long filters (I use sinc-M), it brings the source side to another level. Given the rest of your system, and with a sufficient amount of computing power, especially you should love it !
Thanks for this info Massimo, I read the test and these speakers have nice aptitude for portraying orchestral scheme, which is more difficult to (record and) reproduce well than a simple trio, say. No surprise you find important to preserve or even enhance the soundstage aptitudes described in the article.
I see an excellent measured step response that I think is a sign of temporal coherency important for musicality.
Enjoy,
CD
They did. They sound more complete. I’m not entirely happy though.; some of the screws seem to have a light coating of rust. Not what I’d expect from something brand new. I’ll take it up with Kudos and the retailer.
Good idea!
