I used to use HDMI on my previous X3300, and it sounded great when it worked. But there were a lot of handshaking issues when switching between sources so I changed to using s/pdif. Haven’t tested to see if those problems were resolved with the X3600, and s/pdif works great up to 24/192 which is about 4x what I care about.
Ok. I was really suggesting that HDMI would be a shorter signal path with great audio and Roon interface. I,ve never had any “hand shaking problems” just been “elbow bumping” for the last year or so.
Chord into Croft R is about the best you can get, imho. Rob Watts and Glenn Croft are among the best electronic designers on this tiny planet. I am really impressed by this setup !
@leif looks like he has a very nice setup and space, and I give him a very warm welcome to the forums. But this statement from @Themis perhaps does not reflect reality. It is certainly a long way from “the best you can get”. Just sayin’.
There is always something better. At least for a very long time. But I enjoy my setup a lot and I think it plays very well together. :)) And thanks for the welcome.
This is the audiophile’s mantra!
You enjoying your setup and music is most important any day. The tweaking can be both fun and frustrating. I don’t believe anyone has a bad setup here.
Same here too, always sit on the warm!
As I wrote: “imho”. I haven’t tested everything -that’s a fact- nor have I an unlimited budget (although for a dac this isn’t really an objective concern, nowadays). What do you consider “the best you can get” for these two components (dac and amp), btw ? Just curious.
Source (streaming DAC): Lumin X1 - the absolute best you can get.
Amps: Boulder 2150 (pair)
(probably don’t need a preamp but if you do, maybe Luxman C900U)
Speakers: most people would say something from Wilson, but I like Dynaudio so a pair of Confidence 60s.
That’ll get you a pretty good system @Themis .
Well, I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree, then.
Probably true for nearly every system on this page.
This is just as open to that argument as any other component. My line would be, “streamers are just streamers, better DACs than the onboard may be available”. Someone will tell me all DACs sound the same, and without a level of testing I’m not prepared to do.
Regardless of all that @leif that’s a lovely setup, room and all. Looks cosy and I bet it sounds lovely. Welcome to the forum.
Just moved my RoPieee Raspberry Pi with display into a new Smartipi Touch Pro case.
The RPi and the display are powered by a Raspberry PoE HAT. Nice and clean
Ordered an angled USB adapter and black angled Ethernet cable so that the cables will be out of sight.
I have disabled the PoE HAT fan and while playing the temperature runs around 61.2℃ / 142.1℉.
This is “Al” system, not mine. If you want to have some fun could you tell me what’s in his system?
True story: Few months back me and my brother are walking Pismo Beach on a warmer than usual January evening. We had a couple drinks and are walking to get dinner, we hear a nice sound blasting out of an upstairs apartment above a closed store front. Next thing I know my brother is heading up the stairs to a cracked open door where the music is coming from and he’s asking me “Are you coming?” I’m like “Let’s go.” Next thing, the two of us are staring from the front door at “Al” with a stunned look on his face, smoking a cigar.(I think it’s a cigar). The music is loud, my brother yells “We’re audiophiles.” He’s face goes from stunned to a big smile and he just waves us into his apartment. And then just points at his system above. He yells at me he’s playing The Cure(The bass was nice). I compliment him on his system and take the above pic. We listen for just couple minutes and say goodbye because our wives are waiting for us at the restaurant. It was a really cool awkward surreal moment that could only happen because of the love of music. So just a reminder to all of you on this forum with these awesome systems, please don’t forget to share them with others that share our same love of music.
Now for fun can you guys tell me what’s in his system? I’ll start by saying I think he yelled at me that his JBL’s were from 78’? You guys can correct me if I’m wrong.
Except for the Martin Logans and the JBLs, it looks like he burgled a Mac store.
Yeah it’s a ton of McIntosh amps, seems like more amps than speakers. Maybe he switches between tube and solid state depending on what he’s listening to. Didn’t know his turntable or sub or center channel. The McIntosh 275’s seem to be connected to the JBL’s with some kind of ribbon speaker wire, not sure about that either.
Did he ask you to be his bodyguard?
Did he call you “Betty”?
I think you accidentally found Paul Simon.
Really cool story btw.
I see a Linn LP12!
lol, yeah I don’t know his name. But me and brother thought he looked like an “Al” so that what we call him.
Nordost , perhaps?
