Showing (off) your Roon setup - description and photos [2021 .. 2022]

Made a “pair” of upgrades in the way of a couple SVS PB-1000 Pro subs. Haven’t really had any time to dial them in yet. Just plopped them in, made preliminary adjustments, and let them go. I’ll really dig into the settings and DSP tomorrow hopefully.

How do you like this season of The Expanse? :innocent:

I did try a VPN. Turned out to be too much trouble as Qoboz blocked me saying my credit card address is Canadian. At that point I was done with that. It’s not a big deal…I use Roon (and Tidal in the background as the streaming source). I love Roon’s new playlist function…so much I can’t do any work with it playing in the background…I just want to listen

I never use Tidal directly. My frustration with Tidal is that their algorithm driven playlists are not to my taste. I find all the others better. These playlists I find handy for background music while I work. A solution is to have a streamer which supports Airplay 2 or the connect/cast functions.

Thanks @Vincent_Kennedy. Both good. Never Ending January made me think of Black Earth…Another very late night favourite of mine. Check it out.

It is quite amazing how much better the speaker/subwoofer combination sounds once the subwoofer is properly dialed in. Absolutely worth the effort. Please let us know how everything sounds once you have things worked out between the new subwoofers, speakers and room.

Beautiful setup! How are the speakers sounding so far?

spectacular. they pressurize my room (50’ x 25’ x 3 stories) like nothing else.

It’s great. Just a shame there’s only one episode left to go and that’s it.

Just finished book 9. Wish they could have taken it all the way but what they did they did well.

With just a tiny bit of tweaking last night (just playing around with the app really more than anything), I can already tell these subs are up to snuff. Some of the music I was playing later last night, I’m going to use everyone’s most hated word when it comes to subs, but they are FAST with zero overhang, making them perfectly suitable for music. And that’s not even mentioning how deep these guys dig and that they very effortlessly pressurize the room.

Since our last two moves, I have lost my miniDSP USB mic to use with REW, so I have to pick up another one of those or something similar.

It’s safe to say though, with just the basic settings made thus far and the variety of music I have played, these subs are going to be a keeper and will probably be a permanent replacement for my 12 year old trusty Polk subs.

My attempt on a minimalistic setup bluesound and B&O active speakers. Thinking off adding a Google home screen for song info otherwise I’m very pleased whit the result.

Agreed, Good subwoofers are about the most underrated pieces of audio equipment. People who live with small speakers with 5,5-inch woofers who think they don’t need bass are dead wrong. They are literally missing 30% of playback quality, something no DAC or amp or cable in the world is able to fix. Do you want more air, a bigger soundstage, better treble definition, better instrument separation, better focus, better flow of your music ? Then buy yourself the best sub (or even better two) your money can buy before even thinking about any other upgrade.

I like minimalist setups…nice one here. These components are sure to provide great sound quality. Takes a lot of discipline not to get carried away in this hobby. Is that a subwoofer?

Thank you, have gone back and forth in this hobby but now I’m in a minimalist phase. And must say that i think this is the route for me. Whit more time for music listening and less focus on what type of power supply or cables to use to maximise the sound.
Yes it is a sub a : B&O BeoLab 2.

You’re right on the first one, the bigger/better the sub is, the more air will move around the room! The rest in your list are all singing just fine without any kind of sub.

Sounds like a “sub or no sub” thread is a brewing

Completely understand. It’s good to change pace sometimes. Convergence of mood, time, circumstances, etc. Appreciation of music always constant.
