Here is my modest set up (compared to other systems on here) but it sounds great to me and I suppose that’s all that matters.
Marantz PM6006 Amplifier (UK Edition)
Marantz CD6006 CD Player (UK Edition)
Marantz NA6006 Network Player
Raspberry Pi and HifiBerry Digi+ Pro HAT housed in a black plastic box from Ebay. I cut out openings for the screen and rear cable entry and mounted rubber feet. Toslink out from the Pi to the NA6006.
Technics RS-B355 Cassette Deck (Yes, I still listen to tapes )
Rega Planar 1 Turntable
Fyne Audio F302 Speakers
Digital music is stored on a WD My Cloud Ex2 Ultra and my Roon Core is an Intel NUC running Roon Rock.
I also have a couple of Sonos Play: 1 speakers dotted about and a Google Chromecast Audio.
They’re pretty good. They’re not outstanding in terms of any measurement. But the air pods earbuds I had them a year ago and they tended to fall out of my ear. With these since they are over the head they work much better for me. I use then whenever I leave the house. The real thing they do well is active noise cancellation. I can be driving or walking or doing errands and not even hear much external noise which makes the whole audio experience really calming while I’m out doing stuff helps keep me calm and lower my anxiety to have some music going.
that a PI with a Screen looks amazing…!!! Could you give us more info on the “case” I have no idea how to cut this type of things and my Roon-projects alwas look half-baked
this room has changed multiple times, and will probably change again. last iteration was an NAD M10 (not v2), which I like a lot, and integrated well with the TV.
Have had the Quad for awhile, but have never found a permanent spot for it. It sounds fab with the Dynaudio Special 40s however, so perhaps it’ll stay here.
Roon is via an Allo Digi One, with a way over spec Nordost Heimdahl coax cable to the Quad; an unlikely pairing, but neither was being used at the moment, so here we are. I suspect I will try out the iFi Stream at some point.
Amp: Quad VA One+ Dac/Amp, with 4 EL84 output tubes.
I have been working from home for a decade and cultivating this manspace along the way. It’s first an office, then a music room.
Roon server runs on a Lenovo laptop, (perhaps the last model with an optical drive,) hard-wired to the network in another room.
Sonus faber speakers
REL sub
PS Audio DAC and amps
SONY SACD player (haven’t played for a while)
Apple AirPort Express (as wireless streamer hidden behind the amp)
