Been playing with positioning all day yesterday and today. These massive Maggies (massive for this room anyway) are doing the incredible disappearing act, and I’ve got the subs integrated perfectly. Solid center image, all of the bass benefits from the Maggies, and getting that low end foundation from 45Hz on down from the subs. Man, I’m really digging this!
Pretty much! Just look at them all, partying like it’s 1999…
I dont have an answer as to whether that is too hot, but R2R dacs are fairly sensitive to thermal conditions.
Thnx for the advice.
I’m thinking of active cooling the cabinet to reduce the heat.
Checkout AC Infinity for active cooling if you’re interested. Good thermostat controlled products. I’ve used them for years in my 2 x 2 x 8 foot media closet. They do add to the ambient background noise but I suspect any active cooling has that issue.
+1 on the AC Infinity. I use the Aircom T8 and it works very well. I can’t hear the fans at the listening position, but I’m old.
Or, just get some open shelving.
Jim_F do you have a preference for open shelving for components?
No, but I thought that might be easier then a cooling system. I guess if I had a bunch of expensive components, I might like to show them off by using open shelves.
Also, introducing fans into a system like that seem counter intuitive. I had one of those AC infinity fans in my hometheatre system. Works great…but I couldn’t imagine it in a audio centric system. Then again, may be just me. I’m always chasing black background. I once had a multi-rail power supply which I heard only when I’m a foot away…but I just had to sell it…even in my listening position 8 ft away…my brain kept saying I could hear it.
I like a closed cabinet to protect my gear from my monstrous cats and i don’t care to much to see my hifi components. Just listening to it
I removed the bottom and the Hegel H30 just sits on the floor.
I also removed the backpanel.
Thinking to place a silent fan to force some airflow inside the cabinet. An AC infinity fan is a good option.
My components consist of a PS Audio P20, a Nucleus+, and two Dutch&Dutch 8c speakers. I don’t really have anything to show off. The T8 is on the P20 as it is enclosed in my Salamander Designs Hampton unit.
It’s “Maggies” not “Monkeys”
I have 3 of the active coolers in the media closet, one high in back to exhaust accumulated heat around the network components, one intake low on the wall outside of the living room and one directly on top of the receiver that draws the heat out. The media closet stays at house temp with the 13 channel/amp receiver around 90 degrees. The combination works very well for keeping the system cool but the ambient noise from the cooling systems began to grate on me when I wanted to hear quieter passages in the music.
I purchased the AC Infinity Cloudway T10. It is listed as a whole house fan with thermostatic control. The motor assembly will mount in the attic about 8 feet from the media closet with a 10 inch duct to the damper that mounts to the ceiling in the closet. I haven’t installed it yet but will along with the ongoing sound proofing remodel of the living room. The current openings for the existing intake/exhaust fans will become passive intakes. I can only hope I won’t hear the air being drawn in around the components but the fan noise will be far away in the attic.
Love seeing the amazing systems!
Just the essentials for me: two channel A/V is fine in this space with Tekton Double Impacts fed from Benchmark AHB2. Roon Ready streamer/DAC is Matrix X-Sabre 3. A repurposed discount HP laptop running Ubuntu is my Roon Core. Sound treatment is vintage 1920s Yeh figure rug from Four Corners region.
I have Kef LS50 Wireless IIs with a CA sub in the bookshelf to the left that is just for streaming radio while at sit-stand desk, though Roon works fine from those too.
That is a magnificent rug. If it really is vintage 1920’s it’s likely worth 10 to 20K. Maybe more. Congratulations. Just FYI, make sure you protect if from moths. Don’t ask me how I know.
Indeed. I’m using traps, inspection, and light vacuuming so far. I’d like to avoid freezing or sprays if I can.
This will be the final form of my 2022 setup. I moved the power conditioner from my loudspeaker setup to my headphone rig and I’m glad I did. Saxophones sound more natural, bass more defined and drums sound much more precise among other things. In 2023 I’m probably going to get, if the world doesn’t end, a Woo Audio WA22 tube amp. I recently discovered you can go to a album on roon and start a radio stream so I’ve been doing that last week or so listening to much more music. Probably listen at least 3-4 hours a day now.
Do you like the big apple headphones? Have the AirPods pro’s and while the sound quality isn’t the best I’ve got, it’s good enough and the integration with my phone and computers is first rate, I love that. I bought them before the pandemic not knowing that I’d use them every-single-day.
