Nice but half-serious question though : don’t these misaligned hi-res stickers drive you mad ?
Yes! I have them stacked differently now. The one on top have different feet, so I doesn’t look right while stacked all together…
Put the teenagers in the fridge?
That’s…. Omg…. That’s….!!!
If you put a small electrical current through the grill would its cause any SQ issues ??
always recommended a Berlin trip with cultural program and bring home a few souvenirs from Kurfürstendamm 151…
Isn’t there a risk you are making it essentially a scratching post?
My cats don’t scratch on wood. So no risk.
Long ago I owned the Beveridge Model 2 electrostatics - - 6 1/2 ft tall with a curved foam grill running top to bottom . Never did find a good way to keep my cats from sitting on the top of the speakers . Clearly I lack your creativity .
I had not thought of the Beveridge in years. Thank you for the reminder. I bought a pair of Apogee, found an abandoned kitten, and the kitten destroyed the speakers. I actually preferred the kitten.
What are they called on Amazon. Thank you.
I’m now using Roon in:
- 5 zones with a speaker/lighting system
- main audio system in my music/reading room
- a couple of Devialet Reactors
- a Naim MuSo Qb2
I installed a little media space stolen from a bathroom wall, chosen for bing in the middle of the house. There’s a couple of QNAP’s, a TV box, Ring alarm main box, a PoE 8-port and 2 x fibre switch and a passive 8-port switch.
Each speaker/light has its own IP address and there are at least 20 of them, and I’m waiting for a further 26 units. It’s all operated by Alexa or an app, so needs very quick and reliable wifi. By the time I finish there will be about 80 active IP units on the network. I installed 3 Ubiquiti Nano-HD access points. 3 cover my house of about 2,700 sq ft over three floor and another is in another building at the end of the garden. A minimal amount of wiring was involved from this cupboard, in either direction under the floorboards, which are about to be carpeted in a couple of weeks.
These Ubiquiti units are proving incredibly effective and powerful, PoE makes installation easy and they are quite discreet, a lot smaller than a smoke sensor.
The speaker/light system is installed in arrays of between 1 and 6 units. They are connected to Roon via Airplay. Alternatively, I can just use Alexa and they will play music via Amazon HD, Spotify, TuneIn or the BBC. One array of 6 is also connected to a TV for cinema sound via Bluetooth.
The main audio system is hard wired using fibre optic.
I was previously using the Netgear Mesh system, the MR60 little black boxes, which was slow and unreliable with poor connectivity. The Ubiquiti is in a completely different league, and it’s plug and play.
Roon runs either from the QNAP TS-473 in the cupboard or on an Innuos Zen Mk3.
Cool setup! Could you please share a link for the ip speakers?
It’s a new product https://zuma.ai/
Although new, there is a wealth of experience over a range of technologies. The audio side is led by the guy who founded Vivid Audio and before that was chief engineer for B&W. The design team go back as far as designing the B&W Nautilus. They have a showroom in Central London. My primary interest was in a lighting system, but the sound is exceptional. There is a lot of product development still going on, soon to include microphones in the bezel for Alexa. My house was a major rebuild, but they can be retro-fitted into an existing lighting system.
It was a pleasant surprise to find they work with Roon. Each zone has a master unit that connects with the other units in that zone, and each unit can be designated left, right or mono. I just connected the master unit to Roon via Airplay and it worked perfectly, with Roon adjusting the volume showing up in the Zuma app. They have Amazon HD, Spotify, Tidal and Radio built in, unfortunately not Qobuz. For Qobuz I use Roon.
Thanks for sharing.
In my music system I went for “less is more.” The rest of the room, not so much…
Sonic Transporter Server
Lumin U1 Mini with remote control for volume
Dutch & Dutch 8C speakers with built-in Dacs and amps
Skylan Stands
The room is a torture test of reflective surfaces but the controlled dispersion of the Dutch 8C’s ignores the obstacles and delivers.
I do love the way that wireless speakers so very clearly do indeed have wires. One has got to give credit to modern marketing where up is down and down is up.
I don’t think anybody ever touted the Dutch speakers as “wireless.” Wires is wires. The go away when I dim the lights!
Awesome pair of speakers.
Like the room’s posters decor.
