Ahh, there’s the speakers Is the baseball an audiophile tweak? Don’t keep it a secret from us
Really nice system, lots of hard surfaces. I’ve got a room that has the same issue.
my roon/headphone rigs.
AQ Niagara will make way for another Lab12 Gordian. hoping to add a Grimm MU1 or Wavedream NET in the near future, and reduce the box count (lumin, lps, Sotm txusbultra).
I once contemplated venturing into that side of audio, but decided against it… streaming is just way too convenient. I was also talked out of it by quite a few audio friends who owned turntables…
Like many, I too have come within inches of adding a vinyl rig, but have (thankfully) reasoned myself to finally put a nail in that venture Not because vinyl wouldn’t be fun, it would be, its really about the addtl $ and TIME. For ME, I just don’t have the desire to go down that huge rabbit hole. The digital rabbit hole is big enough!
However, one thing that does come up often is the convenience of streaming (local or stream services), which it is, but that can also be a detriment at times.
Many vinyl aficionados comfort “zen” is the very act of its physical nature and the routine of getting up turning it over, handling the media, liner notes etc… vs click, click on a screen. Which can be just a bit too easy if one is not careful, e.g. listening through the entire album and actually getting into and understanding the purpose of why the artist made that album. Not clicking through 100’s of random songs - which has its time and place - but that can at times, make for a rather stale / chaotic session IMHO.
Both formats are susceptible to stale “sessions”, but its usually more of a mood/mental state to begin with, IMHO
The person I deal with at our local Audio Video shop came by last night to audition the system that I’ve acquired from them and have been working on for the past 15 years. And to check out our recently remodeled media space (living room). Being deaf on the right side is a limiting factor for me and I needed someone experienced in the industry to tell me if it sounded right. It was a friendly visit for a listening session, no instrumentation involved.
We played numerous tracks from various genres for a couple of hours at a fairly high volume. The media room was closed off, my wife was in the bedroom with the door shut, and the cats were hiding as far away as they could get. Soundproofing only goes so far at the volume we were listening to at 200 watts per channel and 3600 watts for subs. The closest neighbor is about 100 yards away through heavy vegetation (trees/shrubs) and not a disturbance for them.
He took one look at the Roon home page on the IPAD 12.9 and started rocking the search facility much faster than I can. He had not tried it before but said it was very intuitive and he easily found/played almost everything he was looking for. Nothing he searched for was in my library but Roon with Tidal/Qobuz found it quickly.
He said the system was very nicely integrated into the room with the equipment seemingly built into the wall and speakers positioned out of the way. The music sounded fantastic at the listening position, coming out of nowhere and everywhere, Stereo and Multi-channel, without the source being identifiable. He had to walk around the room to verify which speakers were producing sound. His one critique, in his opinion it needed more bass. Otherwise it was fantastic.
I’m happy to know it came out right based on an experienced professional opinion. And my wife is happy I don’t need to buy any more equipment. We prefer to listen at a much lower volume.
