Well. It’s that time again! System update!

I’ve been struggling for pretty much the entire of 2023 to get to a setup I was happy with. I had a hegel h200 back in the day that I liked, and I tried upgrading to the h390 and that was the biggest mistake I ever made. Utterly dreary amplifier, sluggish, muted, soft and hopeless, especially through its built in DAC!

I got rid and tried an audio analogue for a while and I really quite liked that, still on the warm side, but with snap, resolution and toe tapping fun. Sadly it’s 80 watts weren’t really enough to make the most of my low ish sensitivity Harbeths.

I played around with a primaluna pre and bryston power for a while, but it went way too far the other way, sterile, sharp, dry and too concerned with being accurate to be musical!

Well, yesterday I picked up the new toy, and with reasonable certainty the one that is here to stay!

Luxman L509X

It’s just brilliant, to my ears, fundamentally flawless in delivery, smooth, musical, engaging, detailed, dynamic, punchy, with just epic bass heft!

Rest of the system remains the same:

-Auralic Aries G1
-Chord TT2
-project Perspex 6 SB, with project uni RS power supply
-Transfiguration Phoenix Cart
-Audiolab DC Block 6

Assorted unexciting cables, some Kimber hero between source, and some QED XT40i speaker cable!

About the only upgrade I’d consider now, might be adding an MScaler to the DAC

My old stereo system, unused since it was in my wife’s room…

Since a week we have upgraded from Elac Navis ARF-51 with dual Dynaudio subs to a pair of Dynaudio Confidence C2 II speakers, driven by a Naim Uniti Atom HE though an LSA Warp One power amplifier. A nice step up in sound quality and also very easy to control with Roon. Love it.

Richard

Richard, if you ever feel adventurous, pull them out from the wall by an extra metre. They’ll sound much better. Mine are even further away, but I realise that’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Even if you have a small mark on the floor where you put them for proper listening sessions and put them back after.

I dare not to try as dragging the speakers forward every time I sit down for a listen, would become a thing at 40 kilograms each. I might try it when my wife is not around for a few days. :face_with_peeking_eye:

We are working on a plan with wooden panels behind the speakers and to have a cabinet installed that is less deep than the current one, plus the TV wall mounted, instead of on the cabinet. It would look like this (first draft).

If that wood has some kind of gaps in between with some absorptive material behind them, that would work great. And look good on top.
I’d say go for it. The C2’s are an incredible speaker. I’ve worked on setting mine up for a few months now (sub integration. front end additions etc.) and it’s amazing to find out how good they can actually sound

Guess that would work under the Gaias. Good idea!

Yes, it is basically want with wooden strips glued onto it. The supplier Akupanel.nl shared some technical information with me. See below.

I made a few changes in my setup, changing places of some of the rack components. I had to swap one fancy aliexpres usb cable for a generic black one, so SQ collapsed. I think I’ll survive.

Now being more serious, made some big improvements in room acoustics, with some celing panels and a few more things.

Also replaced the minidsp shd for a balanced flex and I fixed my ā€œhiss likeā€ noise problem with tweeters. Shd and high sensibility speakers do not get well together

Soundstage is massive now  best I’ve had so far.

Amps: 2 audio research reference 75 with KT150
Preamp: Audio research reference 6
Speakers: TAD TL-1603 15’ woffer and TD-2001 tweeter.
Crossover: Minidsp Flex with balance i/o with dirac live. First equ each speaker from 120hz (30-120 equed together) then dirac. This gives me best results.
DAC: Denafrips terminator plus and Denafrips Gaia DCC with i2s and clock sync.
Streamer: Innuos Zenith
Vinyl: Audio Research reference 2 phono preamp, clearaudio champion level II turntable, SME 309 tonearm and Benz LP capsule.
Cables: Working ones. Speaker cables don’t touch floor no worries.
Power conditioner: Belking PF40. Dedicated power line and earth.

I think that’s it (reel, tape, and other stuff not mentioned)

Fantastic system and room. Those speakers are beast’s. The downward firing port loading system is interesting. I am sure it make these speakers more room friendly than most.

Sorry, forgot your virgin age again…
It is a compact stereo system, as we used it at the end of the last century. T+A K5 offers the possibility to listen to radio (FM & AM), it is included a cassette recorder (those were those weird black things made of plastic) and a CD player. Speakers (in this case MB-Quart QL T50 & QLt 60 Magic Wood made of ceramic) could be connected to the integrated amplifier.

Good morning babyface!

Maybe we have to do a poll, but I have the impression, you are the youngest here.
