76 in a month.

Happy Birthday. You’re ahead of me by 3 years.

Did you add to the poll?

Denon and Marantz are almost identical now…makes sense same company I guess…

Never had a Marantz so I wouldn’t know about that. What I do know however is that the A110 is one fine peace of work. So far the best receiver I had and I will stick with it for a long time.

Well I have had both…both in Receiver form and in Pre Pro form like the Marantz 8805A I have been using for some time now and really enjoy their quality and performance…I also use the exact same speakers you do for 2.2 Stereo Music and 5.2 for Movie surround… my 12" twin subs are Velodyne actives and they fill my need for bass…

You have gorgeous set up!

Are these the Velodyne SPL 1200-X?
You are in a big advantage here. I’d like to place subwoofers but I’m afraid I have reached the WAF factor :expressionless:
Next year I plan to place Heightspeakes for an Atmos setup.
The 8805A looks impressive!

Frank…I tried finding the model number but still can’t read upside down…;-). The woofers are 20 years old and the only problem I’ve had is with their Auto Off/On. It’s too hard on their internal amps and caused me to fry two plate amps. Fortunately they were located in my State of California and I just R&R’ed them without having to ship the whole cabinet. Since I have disabled the auto switching, I’ve never had any further problems.

I really like the wood finish on your Monitor Audio Golds, mine are stained Black…I should also add that I have the two GR floor standers and two GR Book-shelfs for the rear and of course their matching Center Channel. I’m not a real huge multi channel guy…most of my TV viewing is sports and Motorcycle racing and the 5.2 is all I require…

Here’s my new and upgraded setup, which took 1,5 years to build and took my sanity and all my money  I’m pretty proud of it to be honest, I took the time to carefully build the system and didn’t hurry!

The setup is roughly:

  • A roon PC behind the TV

  • Perlisten S7t main speakers

  • Perlisten D15s subwoofer

  • McIntosh MC601 monoblocks

  • Minidsp SHD 2x4

  • Rose RS150b

Before you say it: yes, the monoblocks seem to be too tightly packed but the cabinet has been (hand) built so that the air can move and I have checked that the temperatures don’t rise with the volumes I use.

There were several restrictions with the setup: amount of space, looks (family values), money etc…but I’m extra happy that in the end it was good that I spent so much time deciding on the speakers.

It took a lot of time to consider everything and I started originally from the wrong end of things when I got the monoblocks that I bought locally with a decent price. In the beginning I wanted to solve everything with only tower speakers, but during the time I got the hold of the subwoofer which I thought would ease the selection of the speakers themselves.

But I absolutely fell in love with the Perlisten s7ts and I just had to have them so here we are.

The thing that is pretty cool with Roon is that I can control the volume with Philips Hue rotary knob and there are buttons for pause/play/next and I can control the lights on the monoblocks too if needed. My ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  code but it works so it isn’t stupid I guess

I’m a happy camper!

So when is the Roon Community listening party? We will bring the libations! :sunglasses:

It’s great that you did your homework, so to speak, and may you have many years of listening enjoyment.

Look great. I would lose the chair.

The chair is ONE of the tradeoffs that I had to make to be able to get this size of speakers into the housešŸ˜… The lucky part is that from my perspective I didn’t have to do any compromise in the sound quality, since these are the best speakers that I have ever heard (I know that’s quite a lot to say!)

Your system has really grown; must be great.

Question: You seem to have two REL subwoofers. Did you ever play the system with just one of your RELs?

I have recently purchased a REL S812 sub. Am considering adding a second.

I note that these subs can also be stacked with included straps.

I also have a pair of 812s and the stacking brackets were supplied with mine but i haven’t tried a single stack of two…yet.

With a considerable amount of tweaking the results are pretty impressive but I think some might question if the additional cost and use of space is worth it. I think it is but the benefits are most noticeable with the volume turned UP…the family & neighbours may not agree…

Thank you. It’s been an interesting and fun journey to date.

I used to have a single B&W sub but it didn’t really exhibit the cohesion that I get from running dual RELs. I guess I leapfrogged right over the single REL option due to how things panned-out by engaging an acoustician who showed me the light by doing a multi-sub assessment. He brought 3 different subs with him and we trialled placement of 1, 2 and 3 subs in various points and ran REW sweep tests to see the responses. Bang-for-buck was 2 subs in the corners - there was a subtle but inconsequential paper gain by adding a third sub against one wall, but it was not appreciable from listening, it was only observable on the REW graphs.

The 812 is a beast. I think you don’t need me to convince you to buy a second one…

I’m considering moving to a pair of REL No.31 Reference subs in the fullness of time.
