Why a 200wpc amp with speakers that rattle the foundation with 10 watts?

Because I like them

A slightly more complete answer is I had the Klipsch way before I got the McIntosh. My first amp with the Klipsch’s was a NAD 316BEE. When I finally had the money for the McIntosh (I’ve wanted one since I was a kid) I wasn’t really in a position to change out the speakers. And I do like them. I’d rather err on the side of efficiency, I reckon.

You can still always upgrade the speaker’s.
And it’s not like a McIntosh amp will lose its value

I went with a amp that costs more than my speakers too…but in the future I can just upgrade the speaker’s.

My setup is rather low-end to other people’s

Cambridge Cxn V2 , CXA81 , wharfedale Evo 4.2 and Rel TZero MK3

Roon core is on a MacBook air M1 .

I think I have that mismatch. I bought the speakers first and decided on a price tag for any device. In time the price tag evolved. speakers->amp->preamp->dac. The next upgrade is a dac. But after that speakers again. I have a NAD 298 (I want 2) on Goldenear triton 5s with 2 Yamaha 300w subs.

Sounds like that’s a well matched setup as it is
I got into headphones so I don’t really care that much about my stereo setup anymore and it’s more for background music or watching TV.

This is really where most of my music listening happens  meze Liric & aeon 2 noire

But future ā€œupgradesā€ will most likely be a second Rel TZero MK3 Subwoofer. And loudspeaker I have something in mind like klipsch heresy or JBL classics… one of these big old school loudspeakers :-).

But it’s more likely that I sell my aeon 2 Noire headphones and get the Dan Clark expanse.

Sounds ok with roon on a m1 mini and HQP, and DSP for up to 500Hz. Every update looks like I go up with the price tag, after the amp the preamp was a Benchmark LA4  now I lust over 2 AHB2s

Lovely headphones setups. I would be envious but I do not like headphones, I move around and the wire annoys me, than they become uncomfortable.

If it works for you. Then it doesn’t matter if your setup costs a total of 2000 Euro or 20000.
My setup in the living room is also on the bargain side. And it works fine for me.

Harman Kardon AVR135 receiver with matching HK 5.1 set. Pioneer BluRay player and streaming through a WiiM Mini. My Roon Core sits on a 2017 MacBook Air.

Good music and it is perfect for watching BluRay or DVD movies and watching TV.

haha yes I could. I like the Klipsch but yes, with this amp I could get something more neutral or power hungry.

A big thing for me was I wanted TWO speakers that could cover the whole frequency range, or come real close, without the need for a sub. That’s just my need for declutter.

I like your system

I’ve always had a (slightly irrational) love for them - at least their electronics. Never used their speakers.

Ditto…. I had a 2275 for a while and was obsessed by the looks but valves didn’t work for me.

Now I have the 7200 (which I believe is same as yours but without the multi band EQ?)

It’s still on demo / trial and I’m not fully committed to it yet.

I’m actually more interested in those acoustic panels. Custom/DIY?

These are they

I bought them used from a buddy. Six of them. I have three on the sloped ceiling behind my head that you can’t see in the picture aligned in the exact same way

I’m not really using them as bass traps, though: I’m using them more as reflection busters. He was only getting rid of his bass traps.

This listening room has exactly one listening position in it and I didn’t find putting the traps in the corners did much for peaks or nulls in the bass in this odd shaped room.

Ever since I got into stereo gear as a youngster…I’ve always been in love with those McIntosh BLUE lights…it’s sort of their trademark! Simply lovely!

It really pulls the room together

I love the sound treatment. Can’t imagine the eaves make for a perfect listening space, but maybe the lack of right angles is good? I’m not a sound engineer by any stretch of the imagination. It’s lovely.
