Slow performance on Apple remotes with Nucleus+

Got the update and thank you for that. Ever since the update though it takes 45 seconds to a minute for Roon to open on any of my devices. Using Nucleus+ as my Roon server. Is there another update that will take care of this, or is there a better fix?
Thanks

Hello @MICHAEL_DENNIS,

Thank you for reaching out and letting us know about the issue. I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing a delay when opening Roon on your devices. I understand how frustrating this can be, and I’m here to help.

The recent update didn’t include any changes that could potentially impact this area, so we maybe looking at something environmental or setup \ device-specific. To start, I’d recommend following the basic troubleshooting steps outlined on our support page. You can find detailed instructions and submit a support request if needed at the following link: Roon Support Request.

Once you’ve completed the steps and submitted a request, feel free to ping me directly. We’ll look into this as soon as possible to ensure you have a smooth experience with Roon again.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,
Vova

I have had Roon for years and this has never happened since that recent update, so it is not a coincidence.
I have rebooted my modem and router and the problem is still there. Is there a way to go back to a former update?
Thanks

Hi @MICHAEL_DENNIS,

According to our servers, RoonServer is online on two separate machines in your network, including the Nucleus+ and a second computer. In this condition, Roon Remote can’t automatically connect to a single RoonServer instance and displays the “Waiting for your Roon Server” screen you shared.

In the screenshot you shared from Roon Remote, what happens if you click ‘Select a Different Roon Server’?

Have to you recently migrated your RoonServer to a Roon Remote desktop during troubleshooting? If so, you’ll need to fully remove the non-Nucleus+ RoonServer installation by following these steps:

  • Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer"
  • Rename it to “RoonServer_old”

We’ll watch for your response. Thank you!

Trying to figure out the online on two separate machines. Select a Different Roon Server’ in the past has taken me to the option of running it from my PC, which I don’t want to do. A couple of years ago I did that and it totally scrambled my library and I lost all of my saved playlists, etc. when I went back over to the Nucleus+. 95% of the time I use my persona/office PC to control all playback, etc. and the Nucleus+ is where all the storage is. I use my phone occasionally as a remote and also my laptop. Let me know if you need any other info from my end such as snapshots, etc.
Sorry I don’t know all the logistics. Several years ago I used my PC and hard drive as the Core, and then purchased the Nucleus+ and moved the library over. I also do regular database backups on the Nucleus+. One problem I’ve had over and over in the past is when there is a power outage. Seems like it takes days to get up and running again because Roon can’t find the network, then all of sudden it fine.

I responded 19days ago and have gotten no support. How can I get some help on this issue? It now takes at least almost two minutes to start Roon on my computer, and even longer from my iPhone and sometimes performs erratically, such as freezing up yet music is still playing. Switching between tracks also takes at least 10 seconds.
Thanks

Hi @MICHAEL_DENNIS,

Sorry for the delay in getting to your issue.

Following up here, I still see your windows machine running both as your Roon remote and running Roon Server. Is this on purpose?

Ideally, you’d only run the windows as a Roon remote, and have your Nucleus function as your server. If this is your current set up, please stop Roon Server from running on the windows. You can do this via the taskbar on the computer. Let me know how things perform after doing this.

On top of this, we’re also seeing multiple subnets within your local network, which could be causing some connection hiccups between Roon. I would test out temporarily disabling the other IP subnet and confirm that all your Roon devices are functioning on the same network.

We’ll be monitoring this thread for your reply. Thank you! :+1:

Benjamin,
Thank you for the response.
We had a power outage here last night due to a storm for about a minute, so unfortunately it’s the same dilemma I’ve have been dealing with for years when that happens. After power comes back on the Nucleus no longer shows up on the network. It just won’t start and continually shows the display that I sent you on our first message indicating that Roon is trying to connect. If you could assist me in trying to resolve this problem every time Roon is rebooted, or power is disconnected it would be an enormous help to me. Nobody in the past has ever figured it out. Usually I resolve it by continuous hit and miss troubleshooting on my own by unplugging the Nucleus+, rebooting my router, plugging back in, etc. It takes days to start up again.
After that I would like to resolve the slow issue we were discussing.
Thanks,
Mike

Is there anybody there that can possibly help? Been without Roon and Arc for two days now. I’ve tried everything I can think of as far as rebooting the router, disconnecting Roon and reconnecting, etc.
This has been an ongoing issue for years when I have a power outage. I really think it’s time to move on to something else despite my lifetime upfront subscription and the cost of the Nucleus+

Hi @MICHAEL_DENNIS,

Do you have any protection for your power supplies when these outages happen? Power interruptions have previously been known to cause serious issues, including irreparable damage to the M.2 drive and, in some cases, potential database corruption.

I do suggest investing in a UPS if you’re already using one if power outages are frequent.

As a next step, please connect your Nucleus to a monitor via HDMI, and attempt to boot it up (still hardwired to your router) and share a screenshot. This will help us diagnose any potential hardware issues. :+1:

Power outages are not frequent fortunately. When I hook up a HDMI there is nothing but a blank screen. This has always been that in this situation as it has been requested before.

The power is on, the ethernet light is flashing and the unit is slightly warm as normal. The problem is it doesn’t show up on my network after an outage and won’t connect.

I have attached screenshots that may help.

Hi @MICHAEL_DENNIS,

Does the same issue occur if you completely power down the Nucleus and leave it unplugged for a few minutes before powering back on?

If this is still the case, it’s likely best to send the device in for further analysis. You can get an RMA started by filling out the below typeform:

https://account.roon.app/en/contact/nucleus-troubleshooting/

The Nucleus use to reconnect after powering down and cooling off, but only after numerous attempts. This time it just won’t connect period.
Do the images I have attached look correct?

Could somebody please respond to my last message with the three images?

Hi @MICHAEL_DENNIS,
Since you aren’t getting any output from the HDMI port on the Nucleus that indicates a hardware issue with your Nucleus. Please follow the link @benjamin gave you to fill out an RMA.

Describe the issue

Ever since the last power outage three weeks ago (which rarely happens) I have been unable to connect Nucleus+. I rebooted the modem and router, unplugged all connections to the Nucleus, waited sometimes overnight, and plugged back in and nothing works. It simply will not connect even though it is on and the ethernet light is flashing. None of the remotes connect either. Any advice from somebody who has had this problem and got it resolved would be greatly appreciated.

Describe your network setup

Nucleus+ is connected via ethernet to Netgear Nighthawk R7000. Modem is Arris Touchstone CM8200

Hi @MICHAEL_DENNIS,

Can you please share a screenshot of the Nucleus Web Admin page? This should show whether or not RoonOS has any diagnostic errors.

How can I send you a screen shot when I can’t even access that page? I have already unsuccessfully attempted every method mentioned in how to access the interface. That’s the whole point…I cannot connect to anything regarding Roon. It searches endlessly.
All I have is a screen shot from a year ago.

Let’s try a different diagnostic. Can you please connect your nucleus to a monitor via an HDMI cable and share a picture of what shows up on the screen?
