Description of Issue

Since the new build. Roon has been slow, Loses the core, Search completely bonkers. I have now done the double restart (Many Times) It becomes more responsive but hours later it return to being sluggish.

The build before this was lightening fast and worked perfectly with no changes other than the new update.

I use a Mac Laptop or iPhone and iPad to control.

Not using Roon. Stream from Tidal or Qobuz very fast!

I have read that a lot of other people experienced this as well and the last I read I was asked to post a support. Which is now done

Hi @Michael_Lockwood,

Thank you for creating a separate thread! I wanted to check in to see how things are performing as of late?

Could you please reproduce the issue and share the specific date, time and name of the track playing when the issue occurs?

Once you let me know this info, I’ll go ahead and enable diagnostics for your account so I can review the logging for clues.

If you’d rather do it yourself manually, please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader.

Thanks!

Thank you for the response.

I can tell you last night that my Roon experience was “snappier” but throughout all of today searches were slower and loading of songs was quite slow. That was afternoon pacific time. I have been watching the forums to see if there is any progress.
My problems are compared to my experience before the new build. Before the build my searches were quite fast and song load times were quick . Local library or streaming. It’s been painful how long loading times. Also core crashing. If I come home no music and room is looking for core.

Anything I can do to help please let me know.

Thx m

Hi wanted to add that at 7pm pacific time loading an album is about 10 seconds. Artist load time like 20 seconds.

Hi @Michael_Lockwood,

Thanks for the follow up! We found some interesting details in relation to Search function that seem to causing delays in performance.

Our team is still actively investigating potential causes, so I don’t have any immediate next steps for you, outside of testing out using Roon without Search, and see if things seem as slow.

I hope to have more information to share soon. :+1:

Hi

So after a restart, the app was way more responsive. That was 12 hours ago and as of right now it is maintaining its snappiness. That is different behaviour than a few days ago.

I am staying away from any search function at the moment. It was causing crashes or just plain frustrating.

If the responsiveness stays the same or changes I will let you know.

As far as the search function goes please update me as soon as your hear there are fixes. Thank you, m

Search in Roon has been brutally slow for me ever since the advent of Roon 2.0. I’ve reported this several times to Roon support (as have others). The most recent release has made it even worse. See:

Hi thought I would check in after a good day of Roon about 8:20 pm pst. Roon was very glitchy, songs loaded slow after room radio stepped in. Like 60-120 seconds for a new song to load. Once again if I restart Nucleus everything is super quick but always slows down within a day. Some searches are taking forever.
Thank you m

Interestingly, when I use ARC, similar searches are very fast and I don’t have any of the same performance issues. So there is something very different about the original Roon app vs. ARC that is causing the issues.

I did the update to 2.0.26 build 1357 and searching is still very very slow. Especially using filters, tags and focus searches in My Tracks.

I was away for Christmas. I came home to the same experience I have been having since build 1354. Search and over all use of Roon has been nothing like it was pre the update. I have to say it’s really frustrating to pay for this experience. Fellow users saying the same. Support has been close to nil. I loved it before the big change. Also it seems owning a nucleus does not change the experience which is also upsetting considering the cost. hoping for some feedback soon.

Hi @Michael_Lockwood,

Thanks for the update and sorry to hear your performance issues persist. Our team is still investigating potential causes and solutions, but for now, I don’t have any updates to share.

There’s a good chance performance will pick back up if you disable your local library and only stream content from Qobuz/Tidal. Not an ideal workaround for now, but could at least allow you to stream music without longer pauses.

I’ll be in touch as things progress.

Thanks for the update. True not a great work around and not why I started using Roon . I can always just use the tidal app. The Roon experience when working was incredible. It’s been months now and hope diminishes. I know people are working on it and I hope there is a fix. For now a reboot really helps but the search function is still a nightmare. My friend who lives nearby bought his nucleus a week before this all happened. I talked him into it and now he regrets the experience . I am moaning but I appreciate the vent . Good luck. Please stay in touch. M

Hi @Michael_Lockwood,

As a follow up question - when reviewing your largest watched folder, how many files are in that folder in total?

If you can navigate to that folder outside of Roon, and snap a screenshot of the total number of files in that folder, that would be helpful.

Thank you!

Hi Benjamin,

Attached is a screen shot. The folder lives on my QNAP NAS. I only share one master folder with Roon. The total number of folders in it is: 13,815. The total number of files is: 106,275. Thank you again for your support. Best, Michael

Thanks @Michael_Lockwood!

Which subfolder within this master folder is the largest?

Hi Benjamin

Without looking a really good guess would be “Various Artists”

Otherwise it would take quite a bit to go through them all.

Thank you. M

Benjamin

I just scanned through it and it looks like Q-Music Folder>Various Artists=3865 files is the largest subfolder.

Hi, I just wanted to give you an update. Since the last update, Roon has become more stable and usable. The only remaining problem seems to be the search function. My test is to search for “the the” it will crash the core every time. Most searches are more like they used to be. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks! M
