Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?
· None of the above quite fits
None of the above quite fits
· None of these quite match
Tell us what's going on
· I’ve had a smart playlist set up for a while now. Just a simple one of all my tracks marked as favourites. I’ve just noticed that none of the tracks I’ve marked as favourite today are being added to the playlist. I’ve tried editing it to refresh as I’ve done before. It hasn’t worked. So I tried completely deleting the list and recreating it. It still didn’t work.
I should add the tracks in question are my own ripped tracks directly linked to my Roon Core which is NUC running Rock. Core and remote devices all on the latest software version.

Hi @Daz_Davies, welcome to the community.
A smart playlist built from favorites should update on its own, so the fact that new favorites are not appearing points to something we should narrow down.
To get a clearer picture, a few things would help:
- Is the playlist based on a simple filter like "Favorite = Yes," or does it include any other conditions?
- Are the tracks that are missing showing the heart as favorited everywhere in Roon, or only on the machine where you marked them?
In the meantime, please try toggling the favorite off and back on for one of the affected tracks, then give Roon a moment to sync and see if it appears. If it still does not, we may be looking at a playlist rule or sync issue on the Roon Server side.
Let us know what you find, and we can take the next step from there. Thank you!
Hi @benjamin Thanks for responding.
The smart playlist has no other conditions. Just “Favourite = Yes”
The tracks that are not being missing are marked as favourite Roon Remote on all machines but not in ARC if that matters.
Is there any update on this yet?
Also, now the playlist isn’t showing the correct total number tracks in it. See attached screenshot of the playlist with the “edit focus” displayed. Different number of tracks.
Hey @Daz_Davies,
Thanks for the follow-up! In your above screenshot, had you made any modifications in the track focus editor? If so, then it would make sense the playlist track count would not yet display any modifications made.
The logs also reveal something very specific here. Around midnight on June 3, your library grew from 12,107 to 12,125 tracks, 18 new tracks were added (2 new albums appeared too, and hidden tracks jumped from 28 to 37). These new tracks appear to be your recently ripped files.
The clue is in the search index logs. Searches for many of your local ripped tracks return zero results from the library search index:
LibrarySearchTotal Query 'Two Door Cinema Club - Undercover Martyn': Track Count 0
LibrarySearchTotal Query 'Paramore - Still Into You': Track Count 0
LibrarySearchTotal Query 'Blossoms - The Keeper': Track Count 0
LibrarySearchTotal Query 'Florence + The Machine - Dog Days Are Over': Track Count 0
These tracks physically exist in your library but the search index hasn’t fully incorporated them. Since the Favourites smart playlist (Focus) relies on the same indexed metadata to filter results, tracks whose metadata isn’t properly indexed won’t appear, even if you’ve hearted them in the remote. This is why recreating the playlist didn’t help; the index is the problem, not the playlist definition.
Let’s see if any of the below help:
- Check the Roon Setting > General > Show hidden tracks and albums - is it enabled? If not, see if enabling it will show your missing content.
- If that doesn’t help, In Roon: Settings → Storage → select your watched folder → click the three-dot menu → Force Rescan
Let me know if either of the above help, thank you!
👍
Thanks for the response @benjamin. Show hidden tracks and albums was already enabled.
I don’t have any of the songs you list in my ripped library and never have had so I’m not sure why Roon would be looking for tracks I’ve never had in the first place.
To clarify; it has made no difference. The smartest isn’t updating properly and the track count it shows is different to the count on the edit focus screen.
Thanks for the update @Daz_Davies, perhaps the tracks in question we played via Roon Radio, my apologies there.
I don’t see this mentioned anywhere, but if you reboot Roon Server, do your favorites appear in the playlist properly?
We’ve failed to reproduce this in-house; perhaps it may be useful to try reproducing using a handful of the same tracks you’re seeing the issue with.
If possible, please upload 3-4 of the tracks to the uploader below:
Roon Media Uploader
@benjamin I’ve found the issue. Smart playlists it seems will only include favourites from my own ripped files. The difference of 4 tracks between focus and playlist is that focus includes 4 tracks from Tidal and the smart playlist doesn’t. I didn’t realise smart playlists could only include your own files.
