Some HLS Live Radio Streams Play With 30 Min Delay [Ticket In]

Thanks Hasse,

At least it is a known issue. Hopefully someone will care to fix it…

The following may be of use for debugging:
DR P1 and DR P8 have the 30 minutes delay. They display with the appropriate DR icon in Roon.
DR P4 Midt og Vest (https://drliveradio1.akamaized.net/hls/live/2097651/p4midtvest/masterab.m3u8) does not have the delay. It displays with the generic radio station icon in Roon.
I hope someone is looking into this before long. It is affecting my local WAF of our Roon system

I still see a delay.

However, Roon always plays the aac stream even when the .m3u (mp3) is chosen. This is a bug and I’ll report it.

In the meantime I’ll change the m3u URL to point to the underlying mp3 URL .

If you can switch to use the low quality stream(that is an mp3 stream for DR P4 København station I use) it will work. I haven’t checked if I can choose the specific lower quality stream in the alarm clock extension I use for Roon

But it is a little frustrating that an issue @BrianW and me already have bug reported is suddenly awaken because the radio streams are changed to non working format which Roon should know does not work(as it is bug reported before)

Especially as the fix for the hls/aac is just a matter of playing from the current timestamp instead of start of the stream. It doesn’t make sense this has been a problem for so long.you could even do it globally for all streams(including mp3) as Roon right now doesn’t support to rewind in a radio stream

The perfect solution would of course also be to allow rewinding in a radio stream, but that would probably take a little longer to support, but just changing to play from current timestamp instead of start of stream will solve this for the current possible usecases

@BrianW Thanks for changing the streams back. Do know any of the Roon developers. I would be interested in knowing what is the problem of fixing this apparently very simple problem

All DR stations that had .m3u playlist URLs should now have .mp3 URLs instead and can now be selected.

In my experience Roon doesn’t discuss such details.

Just changed the default stream from AAC to mp3 URL for P8 Jazz. It worked. I am back to live stream with no delay. Fingers crossed it also fixed the repetition-bug.

As of Sunday evening Danish time 22:00 I still had 30 minutes delay on the AAC streams of DR P2 and DR P8, also after they has been changed in Roon (if I understand @BrianW’s post above correctly they now should be mp3 192 as well). However, when making the DR mp3 streams default in Roon, the 30 minutes delay disappears.
[EDIT: I got this wrong, cf. BrianW’s answer]

The aac streams will still be 30 mins behind until Roon fixes the bug; the mp3 streams are 128k and should be on time.

Thanks @BrianW - I am, however, back with the original problem which prompted me to look into the URLs used in Roon for the DR stations: The mp3 stream stops every now and then. This has been the case three times within the last hour. According to DR support they have not heard about such problems from anyone else. This indicates that there is a Roon-specific problem here as well. My connection (1000 mbit/s fiber), the router and my setup in general are fine with all other stations. The problem with stopping streams is specific to radio stations from DR, which I find strange.

I have just played the mp3 stream from DR P2 for an hour without problems.

Perhaps there is something wrong with your setup after all. Consider opening a Support request.

Hi BrianW - I am not the only one reporting intermittent streaming from DR, this was the case for @Hans_N also, before we had a brief but nice interlude of the higher quality from the (delayed) AAC-stream. As I mentioned elsewhere, DR support has no similar reports of streams that stop randomly from other users, so it seems likely that this could be a Roon software issue as well.

A test from Hamburg (Germany)

@Torben_Rick, how are things for you in Germany? Do you experience that the streaming stops now and then? The screen dump you show is how things look now, and as I understand it, even when you select AAC 320kbps you get MP3 128kbps (as a workaround to the Roon-specific 30 minute delay of the AAC-stream).
[EDIT: I got this wrong, the streams still play what they are supposed to, cf. BrianW’s answer above to my earlier mistaken post]

This is what I get when I select AAC 320kps:

Torben

PS: If DR2 stops now and then is hard for me to say. I don’t listen that much to the sender.

No, each stream is separate. The aac streams are still delayed though.

@Torben_Rick I will be very interested to hear whether you get drop-outs on the mp3 stream.

@BrianW I think I have experienced dropouts before the AAC change. It was not every day for me, but I certainly had it 2 days in a row(I use the alarm clock extension to listen to radio in the morning) where I need to push stop/play to get it going again

But these Monday and Tuesday (today) I haven’t had any issues with mp3 stream, but I listen for max 1,5 hour each day

My support issue was for some reason I don’t know closed although the problem has not been solved.

But as I wrote yesterday in that thread, I still have random stops listening to DR P1.

The MP3 128kbps stream is in sync, but the ACC 320kpbs is 30 min. delayed.

I have same issue with stopping mp3 128 kbps streams (DR P2 and DR P8) as @Hans_N. I have no similar issue with other radio stations or other kinds of streaming (e.g. Qobuz).

I’ve opened the thread again
