Starting speed of a track or finding an Album. 8 minutes to get acces to ROON after rebooting and ARC Problems

@wizardofoz
Indeed, still using 8% but 92% still available of 199 GB, so in my imagination this should not limit the Core to work properly.

This SSD is only where the Core is running, no storage at all. In the Nucleus plus there is also a 4TB SSD with music folders which are all disconnected or not watched.

Even when all folders were watched, the ones of the SSD and the ones at my Synology, there was the same 8% in use for running the Core.

Not sure or the above is correct, just my thoughts here.

A complete clean Nucleus plus will also remove my actual Tidal and Qobus files which is not preferable as those are the only ones I am using right now. Yes, I did make a backup before I started to make any changes so this is not completely valid right now.

Because I cleaned the library of all previous connections for the music I do own and all added files from Tidal and Qobuz, it will take a couple of days again for ROON to reorganize all those files again. I won’t restore any of my music to ROON again as long as this issue is not clear or solved.

you will need to reset the database to properly clean it then when you resign in and add your tidal and qobuz logins it will reconnect all your favorites again
and sync them

Im assuming if you have qobuz downloads that they are on a drive somewhere if thats the case then just map the drive and reimport. this only applies to purchased tracks/albums tho

that 8% gets loaded in to RAM and thats what takes the time to load and vet the tracks

Any joy or are you just enjoying the music now?

@wizardofoz
@benjamin

I am still waiting and hoping Ben and the ROON team can identify what’s going wrong with my system.
Especially when I now switched off my watched folders for a couple of days already till any response from Ben and the ROON team.

Thanks for asking.

its a weekend so nothing going to happen for a couple of days

may as well experiment

I know but I disconnected the watched folders for 5 days ago already :face_with_hand_over_mouth: and was hoping to hear what went wrong at my Nucleus Plus.
To impatient maybe :joy:

As I noted this doesn’t seem to have cleaned up the database and as such long load time is still in effect. Your system
I can only suggest. Roon might offer the same thing anyway.

@wizardofoz
@benjamin
Hello I cleaned up ROON complete and now only 1% at my ram is in use. The start up time now is back to 2 minutes :pray:

Before I am adding my watched folders I would like to know or the Support team, can check or ROON is working fine now at my side? No internet problems, no corrupt files (not even possible as only running on TIDAL an Qobuz now)
When everything is working fine as a confirmation of the Support team, I will add folder by folder for the watched folders and check or everything is working fine after I added 1 new folder.

Looking forward for any feedback.
Thanks, Jeff

Hey @Jeff_S,

Thanks for the update! It does appear that this may be a local library issue, if the start-up performance feels good when your local library isn’t added to your database.

You can certainly restore from a backup, or re-add your watched folders. You will probably revert back to the ~8 minute start up time when doing this.

When looking into your account, I see you have a Synology NAS that is currently running Roon Server. Did you recently swap cores in testing?

When reviewing your Nucleus diagnostics, I did see a handful of corrupt files. They appear to be:

Warn: [tagextractionservice] possibly corrupt file (UnsupportedFormat): /roon/sys/storage/mounts/InternalStorage/Music Storage SSD Nucleus Plus/Music/44100/Ray Charles/Genius Loves Company/Ray Charles - Here We Go Again.flac

However, I wouldn’t expect 9 or so tracks to affect performance. If you can, I would re-transcode the above tracks to .flac and see if that may help. What do you use to edit metadata?

@benjamin
Thanks for your reply, yes in the weekend I switched the Core to my Synology NAS to see or there is any other behavior but it was the same as my Nuccleus Plus. Than I switched back again and completely restored the Nucleus plus as mentioned. With time etc.

I am surprised you see me running the Synology NAS now as this isn’t running since the weekend and the Nucleus Plus is running.

How can you see the corrupted files as all wat he’d folders are disconnected?
Anyway, thanks for checking those, I will remove those files you mentioned and step by step I will add the watched folder and restore a backup from before, 2 weeks ago or so.

I am ripping CD’s by DBPowerAmp. Some of the files you mentioned were not ripped by myself.

Can I check corrupted files myself and if so how can I do this?

Thanks Ben,

Hey @Jeff_S,

One option would be to head into your Roon Settings>Library>Skipped Files

And in case your forgot from a previous reply, another option for you -

Then do a search for “corrupt” to manually see any corrupt files.

Since you’re using DBPowerAmp, you can run their format converter set to Test mode to test for corruption as well. :+1:

@benjamin
It seems Starting a new track or finding an album has been improved a lot since the corrupted files have been removed.
The network has not been changed at all, so this was not te reason of a slow responding system.

After rebooting it still takes time to get connected to ROON but I can live with it as how often will I switch of my Nucleus Plus or reboot?

One more issue I never reported before, when I want to access ROON by any remote control like an iPhone 12, iPad 2022 Pro or laptop ASUS 2023, it takes almost 30 - 40 seconds I can access ROON. Doesn’t sounds long but in reality it feels like a long time. Is this known by the Support team or any other users?

Hey @Jeff_S,

There could be a handful of reasons as to why connecting from a remote is taking a bit longer than expected. I’m not able to definitely pin down anything specific until we’re able to review another core diagnostic with a provided timestamp.

If possible, please replicate the issue and take note of the specific date and time, and we’ll take a closer look! :+1:

I’d also make sure each device is up to date and running on the same Roon build - from your account it looks like a few devices are still on previous builds.

Thanks!

@benjamin

Hello Benjamin, I just checked at 22.24 hr UTC+2 on 24th of July 2023 and indeed it took 20 seconds to contact ROON by my iPad. I also checked the versions ROON is running at. Al are running ROON version 2.0 (build 1299), the Core at The Nucleus Plus as my iPhone or both lPads.

Can you please check?
Looking forward for your reply.

Jeff

Hey @Jeff_S,

I wasn’t able to see anything in relation to your core diagnostic, but it may be helpful to review logs from the affected iPad device. Please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs from the iPad to our File Uploader.

I also see that you’re running RoonServer via a NAS device. Are you moving between cores often?

@benjamin
Hello Benjamin, I saw the positive reactions of other members about the latest update for ROON, version 2.0 (build 1303). Installed this one immediately and even it was strange, I had to do this twice, the results are amazing :+1::+1::+1:
Nearly 21000 Albums or 285000 Tracks and ROON is extremely fast by finding ĂĄnd playing each track of my library.

I don’t know what you guys have done but for sure it is worth to mention this success by the speed of using ROON now.
Great job, thanks!

Jeff
