David,
Yes , my Zen Dac is powered by an IFI iPower, so that’s not the issue.
Had the same problem with the Purifier when I used the usb of my MacMini in stead of the Rpi, so I doubt wether the powersupply is the problem.
Using Tidal directly with the Master files iso Roon gave no problem neither…
Sounds like its a faulty iPurifier then, as I said mine worked fine on a pi with MQA and my SMSL DAC when I had Tidal. You didn’t answer what psu you have one the pi either, is the official one?
Simon,
No it’s not an official psu, but 5V.
I also tried the 5V IFI I Power on the Rpi but that didn’t help either.
But what I consider strange is there were only problems with the MQA files, all the others worked fine
Roland
It’s the current the PSU is capable of supplying that more important. If your using a Pi4 it needs 3A current minimum to operate efficiently. If your adding to the draw which you are with adding the Ifi then it will have power issues. The bog standard 5v iPower do not have the recommended amperage for a pi4 it even struggles on the pi3. The newest vsn which is white has enough. It might be that it’s faulty either way but don’t under feed equipment with an inadequate PSU.
Oké Simon,
I could give that a try
It can’t but help in other ways feeding the Pi with the correct power spec. You wouldn’t for any other piece of Hifi equipment.
That said how long have you had the iPurifier? If under warranty I would get it replaced anyway if you can as it should work all other things being equal and may be faulty. I found Ifi not to bad at replacing stuff.
I can bring it back, no problem.
I could ask for another one to try if that one works.
Well, I replaced the PSU by the original white Rpi one, I changed the Purifier for another one but nothing changes. Stuttering remains with the Purifier playing MQA from the Rpi as well as from the Mac Mini.
No idea what else to change any further…
Roland that is a strange one, are you back on the Jitterbug now?
I assume that works perfectly.
Mike
Yes Mike, the Jitterbug works fine, though I think the sound of the Purifier is slightly better.
But the remarks of Simon made me look further. Therefore I changed the PSU and the Purifier, unfortunately without a good result.
Roland
I did wonder if you had returned it.
Well mostly good news, if not perfect
Mike
I would moan to Ifi then as it seems a design flaw. I don’t have Tidal any more so cant check it again. Can’t now remember if I added the iPurifier after I ditched Tidal or before.
I decided to download some mqa test files as I now longer have Tidal. No issues playing them at all via the iPurifer and SMSL SU9. All lights up as mqa , no stutters. So it’s definitely the Ifi dac and purifier combo. I would let Ifi know this as their is something off with how the zens working I think.
For 300-400 quid or whatever the combination costs, could have just got a better dac.
Adam,
Yeah you could be right .
Which one(s) would you suggest ?
So from skimming this thread is it so that you can use the zen DAC on the USB out of a pi?
And this would be Pi with vitOS / roon bridge > zen DAC?
What about other pi OS for Roon - same scenario?
Cheers
I changed my ZEN Dac got the Neo iDSD, same configuration but no problems anymore😃
