Everyone there is hope! I hope this works for you.
I have an arcam airdac (airplay 1) connected with ethernet to a child node in a mesh network. This airdac is connected to the main hifi room. I have a Sonos 1 stereo pair (airplay 2) in another room connect to the same child node wirelessly.
The recent update broke the sync between these two zones. Like other older audio devices the arcam airdac couldnt be added to Apple Home using any of the methods. So that fix was a non-starter. Enabling “airplay-compatibility mode” in audio device settings also had no effect.
I got really fed up and dug around in my network settings. The sonos 1 pair were showing up as connected to the network via ethernet, which was wrong. I wondered whether this was contributing to this sync delay that the new update had caused.
Either way, it prompted me to perform a hard reset of the child node, arcam airdac and sonos 1 speakers. And reconnected everything. When I looked in my network settings, all of the connections appeared correct. But the sync problem was still present!!! Gah! Then I remembered that one of the earliest suggestions was to turn on “airplay compatibility mode” in Advanced Settings on the audio device in Roon. And lo and behold, where before toggling that button did nothing, this time it fixed the delay!!!
A very happy camper.
I dont know whether the appearance of the network connections was part of the problem or not. But doing a hard reset of all devices, reconnecting and enabling airplay compatibility mode has been a successful and stable fix.
Thank you for your feedback. It made me pull all the plugs in the house and started everything again from router to switches to server. (In that order)
No luck, no sync…
The compatibility mode makes no difference on the Pioneer SC-LX58 (AirPlay 1) and the AudioPro C10 mkII (AirPlay 2) does not play anything when I switch it on here.
When I use a new LAN connected AppleTV (AirPlay 2) via HDMI to the Pioneer and group it with the AudioPro it is also out of sync. Two AirPlay2 devices. Both are in the same room in Apple Home as well.
The AudioPro via WiFi (no LAN available on the device) is ahead and about half a second later the Pioneer follows via LAN.
There is no wifi on the Pioneer, same LAN switch as the AppleTV.
Hi @connor,
Is there any update from the Roon team regarding this investigation?
A quick update as to whether it is still under investigation would be appreciated.
Thanks.
No updates to share, unfortunately, the ticket with development is still being investigated, but as you can probably guess, progress is slow.
Note that any updates we do have, we’ll share here. If the thread auto-closes, we will re-open it when there has been any progress or additional information ready to share.
This is apparently affecting my setup. I use Roon to group playback between some Dynaudio AirPlay 1 speakers and shairport-sync on a diet-pi. Since the update it hasn’t played in sync reliably. I’ve downgraded shairport-sync to an old version to force AirPlay 1, and it works again.
