Jim it has been so much fun watching the evolution of your oh so simple system from a few years ago
Thanks. It’s been fun. Tomorrow should be fun also trying to install SSD in the Mac Mini.
As long as you are still enjoying it as well, that’s all that is important
Listening room APC BE600M1 battery backup and surge protector, behind the left side speaker and bass trap. RPi4, Meridian Prime, Denon AVR-2805, and iPad Mini 6 all connected here.
Jim, is APC BE600M1 silent? Years ago, I had the beige colored upright APC UPS for small-office, and it made audible buzzing noice. Thank you.
Silent (10))
I cleaned this horn again. This time I was able to get it apart by tying a strap to a tree in the back yard and then to the horn slides and jerking the horn. I washed it in soap and water then used the Wright’s Silver Cleaner and Polish again. Then, I oiled the slides and valves and put it back together. OCD at work here, I suppose. This is as good as I can get it unless I want to pay someone to remove the dents. Probably not. I hope nobody gives me anything else. Not bad for a 100 year old instrument.
What type of horn is it and sorry if you bave already said. Looks good.
It’s a 1924 Conn New Wonder Eb Alto. It was given to me recently by the widow of our lead singer who died several years ago from exposure to agent orange in Vietnam. He didn’t play it in our band, he sang lead and played Cornet. He’s top left in my avatar. I’m front center.
A small aesthetic enhancement. David has headphones.
EDIT: The iPad Mini 6 on the left side second shelf from the bottom can act as a Roon end-point and screen, but it’s primary purpose here is to stream Apple Music to my Meridian Prime in case of a Roon failure for some reason. It is connected by a camera adapter, FiiO KA1 DAC and 3.5mm cable to the Meridian Prime, all stuff I already had. If my internet is down, I can use Verizon hotspot data and play through my main system.
I added this footstool in the hopes it will satisfy my desire for a new chair. TBD.
EDIT: I ordered some Home Depot 6 inch stainless steel legs for my chair. Should be able to install the legs without having to remove the swivel/rocking mechanism.
A very classic look!
Just had a power outage of a minute or two. My two battery backup surge protectors saved me. Everything Roon stayed up and connected.
My power has been off 4 hours. Battery backups let me safely shut down the computers including the rock nuc.
Are y’all affected by the big storm hitting the eastern US? We’ve had some pretty rough weather come through the past few hours. I shut down my streamer/server earlier as a precaution. So far, no power outage.
For extended outages a decent UPS will run a low wattage led lamp for a long period.
Stay safe guys
Life is good…don’t sweat the small stuff.
Lucy: “I think I like it better with the grills off. Daddy said it doesn’t sound any different, but he can’t hear as well as I can. And, it looks better also. Doesn’t get lost in the black bass traps. And, the black speaker grills make a good backdrop for the silver horn.”
We quite often get a nasty storm late in the afternoon, it’s plugs out and sleep til it’s over
Similar situation here. We get quite a few and lengthy power failures. It cycles off-on several times before going off completely. We disconnect the system until well after power is restored. Our is attributable to having so many trees in this area, close to power lines and having shallow root structure.
Who needs a $6,000 to $10,000 Herman Miller Eames Lounge chair? I bought this footstool for $100 and installed these stainless steel legs on my chair to negate the rocking/swivel action. So, I’m good to go here. I’m running out of things to do except enjoy the music.
I ordered a pair of 23" X 23" GIK diffusion panels for the back wall, just to see if they do anything.
