Hello to the Crowd,
I have a Roon server running on a Synology NAS and KEF LSX II speakers along with an Apple HomePod. When I use these speakers together as a zone or group, there’s always a time delay in audio playback. Sometimes it’s no problem and then with a different song it’s really bad…
I’m just starting out with the Roon experience and I’m not very familiar with it yet. Can someone please help me?
Thanx Markus
I’d suggest that different devices will take different amounts of time to process the signal, hence the delay. I can’t see a way in the Kef app or manual to adjust the delay but this Muse screenshot might help -no idea but worth trying. Obviously just adjust the sync on one of the 2 destinations. A good way to test the sync is play a sine wave and adjust until you don’t hear any ‘beating’, then try some music. Good luck!
Hi
Thank you for your quick answer.
Currently I Can’t test it - we are Not at Home for 1 week.
I will try and catch you Next week.
All the best.
You should only group devices using the same protocol. Roon RAAT does an excellent job of keeping different zones in sync, but AirPlay will not deal with latency so well.
Speaker setup is not intended for this purpose, and should not be used in the way described.
I can’t group my older HomePod with other non Airplay devices - but if the OPs system allows him to do so, it would be helpful to know the reason why using speaker delay on one of teh destinations is a bad idea. I’ve noticed different DACS even when fed simultaneously by the same usb soure have different propagation delays and for A/B testing it would be good to have them in sync. I haven’t used speaker delay for this purpose- but I was hoping to give it a go. Thanks
I assume both are using AirPlay, but it would be useful to know for certain.
Oh yes, I I forgot the Kef have Airplay
Sounds like our good old friend the AirPlay1 vs airplay2 sync issue. There’s an other whole thread on this one and roon support have been sitting on it for months.
