Hi @Bart_Deege,
Thanks for writing in to let us know about this issue. Can you give a bit more detail about what happens when you try to play Qobuz tracks? Are there any error messages?
No messages at all. The song I try to play does not start, the progress stays on 0, this takes about 5-10 seconds and Roon jumps to the next song, repeating the same, until the album is finished and then it starts Roon radio.
I tried to reload the album properties through the edit function, but this does not help.
I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.
However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.
First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.
Hi @Bart_Deege ,
We investigated your logs for the time that you supplied and found a lot of failed attempts to connect with your computer “MacBarts” which resulted in Roon giving up on connecting. Do local files also have these dropouts? How is “MacBarts” connected to your network?
Thanks for coming back to me. Macbarts is my MacBook laptop I use to run Roon. As do I on my iPad and iPhone. What I do not understand is that I use my nad c658 to stream to from my nucleus. What does connecting to MacBarts have to do with that, I saw there was an also audio device enabled on my laptop which I have disabled now. Without any change. When I use my iPhone as a remote it also does noet play. What I also do not understand is that this only happens with some music, most of it plays without any problem.
I should add that I have been trying to make a backup off my Roon database to my Synology NAS which was not successful and I have also made a support case for that. I use the Roonbackup user for that. Probably you see these fails and it has nothing to do with the playback problem.
We’re seeing some failures in regard to preparing the NAD for playback. It times out before getting setup, and then auto disposes the stream.
Could you test out getting the Nucleus + Nad directly hooked up to your primary router, just temporarily for testing purposes? I’d be curious if the same issue occurs in this setup.
How is your Nad connected specifically? Could you test out hardwiring a connection if you haven’t already?
As I have mentioned before it only happens with some music. Most music plays without a problem at the same time as other music does not play. Everything is hardwired directly to my router with CAT 8. Since the switch or router does not notice a difference between TCP/IP packages of the music imho it is not logic to assume it is a problem in the setup.
Also another thought, the music that does not start through the Nucleus, but plays without a problem through QOBUZ to the NAD. As soon as I take the Nucleus out of the equation the music plays.
While I can see your reasoning, errors in your Roon Server logs are telling a different story. For example, here’s an raatserver exception failure due to a drop in network connection:
Warn: [inetdiscovery] failed to query for services 'com.roonlabs.raatserver.tcp' in domains 'addr:__ADDR__': Result[Status=NetworkTimeout]
Followed by additional IO errors:
[Critical: [base_proxy] exception in web request:: System.IO.IOException: Failed while reading web response stream
[35520] ---> System.IO.IOException: Unable to read data from the transport connection: Connection timed out.
[35521] ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException (110): Connection timed out
We can see the track fully buffered, so we can confirm the issue isn’t between your Roon Server and any upstream services, but between Roon Server and the NAD.
Another test for you - we’re only seeing failures when attempting to play FLAC => 24/88 formatted tracks. Are you able to reproduce the issue otherwise?
I’d confirm that the NAD settings match the device settings set within your Nucleus/Roon in this case.
I can reproduce the problem with Branford Marsalis Quartet’s album “Upward Spiral”.
Nick Cave and the bad seeds’ “Ghosteen” album, Rolling Stones “Let it Bleed”.
There are also 88/24 albums. I have also stored these on my Nucleus, I can confirm that both versions (Qobuz and local) do not play.
Well done you and your colleagues. So it is a problem in the NAD.
Is it the right moment to reboot the NAD and see if the problem is solved or do you want to do some extra test?
Thanks Fietser, indeed I found several items on the forum. I can confirm that when Dirac live is enabled the 88/24 songs do not play. As soon as I disable Dirac they play.
Because I play Qobuz through AirPlay it will be converted to a lower bitrate and does play.
I think the case can be closed and should be added to known problems.
@benjamin, I would like to come back to issue: GTSF2U.
I contacted NAD and suggested to play songs with 88,2 KHZ through BluOS with Dirac Live enabled. I encountered no problems with these type of songs playing it with BluOS.
Isn’t it a Roon problem in that case and not caused by the NAD?
