Unable to access music stored on network share (Innuos ZenMini) (ref#X3YS3B)

Yes, I’ve done that. But I really want to connect directly to the share without having to rely on the Mac mounting the folder because sometimes I have to manually mount it before roon will work properly. Particularly if using ARC. Plus, as you say it’s more stable and recommended by Roon.

Hi @Robert_Borley ,

Have you by any chance received any response from Innuos support yet? I wonder if there is some kind of SMB settings configuration page in the web interface that you can try to configure. If there is, please try to set the SMB protocol to v1 and let us know if this helps.

Here is the latest from Innuos
It doesn’t seem to be an Innuos issue. Rather a Roon/MacOS issue…

Hi Rob,

We usually suggest for users who prefer Roon that they run their Innuos servers as their Roon core for performance and stability reasons.
I would suggest checking the relevant network settings are correct on your Mac, I can see from a search online Mac Seqoia has various issues at the moment affecting Roon users - Continued issues with Roon running on Mac Sequoia

Can you send me a screen recording of your process adding the Innuos to your Roon library. I’ve switched my system to a roon bridge and tested this just now on my Windows machine as the core.

I would also suggest posting about this issue over on the Roon forum too as you mention you can connect to the Innuos on everything other than Roon. They can at least note if its a specific issue to them. Roon connects via SMB like we do in Sense, our system automatically cycles through SMB versions, starting from the most recent to ensure the best compatibility.

Hey @Robert_Borley,

Thanks for the update! Did you try @noris’s above suggestion for SMB?

Let me know if this helps. I also noticed youre running Sequoia 15.3 - we’ve seen many users report better device connection when updating to Sequoia 15.4, perhaps this may help you as well? Let me know if you’re able to give your Mac an update!

We’ll be monitoring for your reply :+1:

Hi

I don’t know what the SMB protocol is or where to set the version. Is this something to do with Roon, MacOS or InnuOS?

I will update the Mac and report back.

This is what Innuos has to say about SMB, whatever that is.

It’s the Windows protocol for file sharing on local networks, which has become the ubiquitous method for this in all kinds of computer systems.

I updated MacOS to 15.4. It made no difference

I have no idea how to set the SMB protocol nor where to do this (Mac, Roon or Innuos?). Nor what SMB stands for or what it is or where it is. Is it part of Roon? @Suedkiez says its part of the Windows system that has been adopted by other systems. I would assume then that it is used by everything all the time? It seems completely hidden to me.

I am becoming frustrated with Roon once again. It seems to happen once a year or so. Mostly around networking. Is there a course that Roon has/could create, because joking aside, I really think that to be able to use Roon properly (and it is a paid service) the user needs to understand the basics of computer networking.

Here is the latest response from Innuos support. I have no issues connecting to the Innuos file share with any other system or device.

We have no option to change our SMB protocol manually on our systems. There is no need to alter anything regarding SMB on our systems, we try different versions until we find one that works from most recent to least recent for best compatibility.

This seems to be a Roon issue as my Mac also has no issues connecting to the Innuos share.

Hello @benjamin @noris
Is this ongoing problem still being supported?

Hey @Robert_Borley,

Sorry for the delay and thanks for your patience so far!

As a next step, lets see if attempting to mount the Innous via Terminal using the same command used by Roon helps. Try running the below command:

mount_smbfs -N -s -o nobrowse '//zenmini/music' ~/Library/RoonMounts/RoonStorage_e2324d907aae5ed90948c4364e572bb2a8b9f7e7

Or:

mount_smbfs -N -s -o nobrowse '//zenmini/music' '/Users/******/Library/RoonMounts/RoonStorage_e2324d907aae5ed90948c4364e572bb2a8b9f7e7'

Let me know if this helps! :+1:

I’m not sure what to expect and how to test this? Do I unmount the share first or something?
What am I looking for?

I couldn’t get this to do anything. It just says “no file or directory”

This is very frustrating because I find myself having to manually mount the share.

I have to say that I am quite disappointed with Roon support. Roon is great when it works but I don’t find it easy to use when it comes to maintaining stability

I think I will try something else, but I may also need some help. I am going to switch my Roon Core from my Mac Mini to My Innuos server. However, I think I will loose all my listening data etc. How do I move my Roon database?

I have configured my Innuos as a Roon Core and updated the Roon Core version and databases. I just attempted to restore the latest backup. However now I just seem to have 2 Roon Cores on my Mac. I am using Roon on my Mac to attempt to do this. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

I think I may have figured it out. Now I think I need to rename my new Roon Core. Does anyone know how to do this?

It appears to be the correct Roon Core according to the network location and IP address. However, it is called M1 Mac Mini but it’s running on my Innuos server.

Go to Roon’s :gear: > Setup > Roon Server name and choose your new name there.

No I’m not happy because since I moved my Roon Core all the links in my playlists seem to be broken. They say “unavailable “ even though the albums are there!

Do you not have the “Improve” button at the top of a Playlist? That should find the new locations of your tracks I think.

No. It just finds the relevant tracks on Tidal. I’ve already ruined one playlist

Hi @Robert_Borley,

Nice work getting your Roon Server setup on your Innous!

You’ll likely need to update your storage folder paths to have your tracks properly re-populate in your playlists.

Head to Roon Settings > Storage and review your watched folders. See if any need updated file paths - you can click the three dots>edit>browse to update to the correct paths.

Let me know if this helps! :+1:
